LFC honored by Harvard’s Kennedy School
Leadership Fayette County, which has recently been recognized by Harvard University as an exemplary program, graduated its 12th class on May 12. The graduates, who all receive college stipends from the program, are, front, from left, Brittany Domingo, Valley High School; Brittany Canaday, Meadow Bridge; and Danyca Thomas, Valley; and back, Erin Heeter, Oak Hill; Joel Bracken, Oak Hill; Andrew Elliott, Oak Hill; Cody Hildebrand, Midland Trail; Marissa Workman, Midland Trail, and Perri Kiser, home-schooled. Keynote speaker Oliver Luck urged the graduates to keep an open mind, expect the unexpected, and to pursue their dreams and passions. Rebecca Pollard, a 2008 graduate of the program, charged the students to “embrace what you have learned through Leadership and to understand that those tools have given you the ability to compete with the best.”
Leadership Fayette County, a youth leadership and education program borne from the county’s planning process, has received national recognition from the Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at the Harvard Kennedy School. Honored by Harvard as a “Bright Idea,” the program will be highlighted on the Ash Center’s website and the Governance and Innovation homepage. Bright Ideas is an initiative that recognizes creative and promising government programs and partnerships.

Coleman’s bunt lifts Valley to 6-5 win
Todd Coleman’s squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Druw Bowen with the winning run in a 6-5 Valley defeat of Wyoming East Saturday.
Limited offensively this season because of a hand injury, Todd Coleman took advantage of an opportunity Saturday afternoon.
