Fayette County Board of Education members last month approved a five-year draft renewal of its excess levy - totaling more than $37.6 million to be considered and voted upon by county residents May 13.
The current levy expires June 30, 2009. If endorsed by Fayette County voters in two months, the levy renewal would commence July 1, 2009, and extend until June 30, 2014.
According to associate schools superintendent Serena Starcher, below are the levys 24 areas of expenditure, with their annual allocations for each of the ensuing five years:
- Free textbooks $823,000.
- Student security $50,000.
- Student admission to athletic events $71,811.
- Instructional support $225,000.
- Public library support $21,500.
- Special education support $40,000.
- WVU Extension, 4-H and Energy Express $24,237.
- Student health services $30,000.
- Student activities and athletics $85,000.
- Music support $60,000.
- Art support $25,000.
- Family and consumer science support $10,000.
- Industrial arts and career technical education support $10,000.
- Business education support $13,000.
- Physical development and health education support $25,000.
- Driver education support $30,000.
- Science/math support $88,000.
- Reading support $100,000.
- 21st century technical curriculum support $900,000.
- Maintenance of buildings/capital improvements $1 million.
- Pre-school $50,000.
- Professional salary support $2.07 million.
- Service salary support $1.03 million.
- Employee dental/vision insurance $750,000.
