Christmas Cheer drive is now accepting sign-ups

By Staff Reports
The Montgomery Herald

The Upper Kanawha Valley is urged once again this year to support the annual Robert W. Jackson Christmas Cheer drive. The drive was initiated more than 50 years ago.

Applications for Christmas Cheer will be taken Nov. 13 and 20 and Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Montgomery Baptist Church, beside the Brown Chevrolet truck lot.

In order to qualify, you must have children aged 1-12 living in your home, meet income requirements, and live in the area served.

Christmas Cheer serves those living from Montgomery to Handley and to Page on Route 61, including Armstrong Creek, and to London on Route 60 West and Boomer on Route 60 East.

In 2007, 98 families received food and vouchers and 203 children were given toys, said Leon Newman, Christmas Cheer coordinator.

Newman said the drive wouldn’t be a success without support from local volunteers and donors.

If interested in supporting the project, contact Newman or another board member.
