Bank preparing for annual Christmas concert

By Steve Keenan
Staff Writer

MONTGOMERY The welcome strains of Christmas music — both familiar and unfamiliar — warm the hearts of many during the month of December.

And Guy Dooley is no different.

Dooley, the former president of United Bank, is once again anticipating a visit to the bank by the Appalachian Bible College Chorale and Jubilate for an evening of Christmas music. This year’s event is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 in the bank lobby.

Dooley, who became bank president in 1972, says the ABC contingent has been appearing at the bank since the late 1960s or early 1970s. “They’ve become a regular part of the Christmas celebration at the bank,” says Dooley, who can’t recall missing one of the celebrations.

“They do such a good job,” he added. “People really enjoy it. We have some people who have never missed one. And since they’re from a Christian school, they really know what they are singing about.”

According to Gary Ring, director of public relations for the Bradley college, “As the concert unfolds through carols of joy and praise, the familiar message of the Christmas story is told through a new vantage point. “Let Us Adore Him” reminds us that the message of Christmas never grows old, only sweeter. We invite you to ponder the wonder of Christmas as we are reminded that the joy of this season is due entirely to the redemption God freely gave us, through the later death of His Son, Jesus Christ.”

Kevin Suiter is the chorale director, and the accompanist is Grace Suiter. Jubilate director is Rosalie Anderson.

Over 50 ABC choir and handbell choir students will participate in the program, which will consist of a mixture of instrumental and vocal numbers.

The public is invited to attend the concert.
