HFT announces 2010 schedule

From Staff Reports

FAYETTEVILLE — The Historic Fayette Theatre has announced its 2010 schedule of events, promising new opportunities at the theatre, along with some exciting modern changes, according to publicist Michael Behler.

Once again, Mainstage shows will form the core of HFT’s presentations, while special programming comprises the second season. These shows are designated as Second Season because they are often pre-cast and offer HFT regulars new opportunities.

In addition, the theatre will be open for tours on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tours are free and open to the public.

Behler says a new feature this year is the ability to order your tickets online with a credit card at www.brownbagtickets.com. There will be a 99-cent service charge and tickets will be mailed or held at Will Call.

Tickets may also be purchased in advance with cash or check at the theatre. The box office will be open Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the four weeks prior to a first performance.

Tickets will also be available at the door. Doors open one hour before show time. If you have special needs, please give specifics at the time of your ticket purchase and reservation.

It is important to remember, he said, that phone reservations will no longer be taken.

The season opens this spring with the musical comedy “Way Out West In A Dress,” a wacky story of rollicking role reversal and revelry that should be fun for the entire family.

Show dates are March 12, 13, 19, 20, 21 (matinee), 26, 27, 28 (matinee).

A Second Season offering of the dramatic play “‘Night Mother” will open in April. Featuring two of HFT regulars, Jan Neal and Debbie Cooper, this is a story of both despair and hope in a contemporary Appalachian setting.

Dates are April 30, May 1, 2 (matinee), May 7, 8.

On July 3, HFT will again participate in the annual Fayetteville Community Celebration with the ever-popular Jon Kemper’s Fourth of July Musical Extravaganza. Featuring area musicians and singers and the Fayetteville Community Chorus, it is an excellent way to celebrate our nation‘s birthday, Behler says.

The summer continues with the comedic play “Radio T.B.S.” (which stands for Radio Trailer park Broadcasting Station). Join Dixie and Vesta and the uproarious antics of two radio disk jockeys broadcasting from a local trailer park. This play will be performed on July 23, 24, 30, 31, Aug. 6, 7, 8 (matinee).

In response to continued requests for children’s programming, HFT will offer its first ever Children’s Drama Camp Aug. 9-14. Joy Lynn will run this one-week day camp, which will culminate in the show “How To Eat Like A Child” performed by the camp participants.

The theatre will again partner with the West Virginia Professional River Outfitters Association and IQ Media to present an evening of exciting whitewater video on Sept. 29.

The fall will bring two shows to the HFT stage. “Peril On The High Seas (Or Let’s Get Together and Do Launch)” is an old-fashioned melodrama. Show dates are Sept. 24,25, Oct. 1, 2, 8, 9, 10 (matinee).

The Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre will now be offered in the fall. “A Country Kinda Murder,” performed by The In-Cahoots Players, is a musical and is presented in cooperation with local restaurants. This event will be on Oct. 22, 23, 24 (matinee).

Christmas season 2010 will offer a different version of the classic holiday story “It’s a Wonderful Life” in that it will be told by actors performing the play in a 1940’s radio show. Dates are Nov. 26, 27, 28 (matinee), Dec. 2, 3, 4, 5 (matinee).

Finally, The New River Youth Symphony and Chorus will end the season with a concert of classical music on Dec. 11.

All performances are at 8 p.m., except the matinees, which are at 2 p.m.

Admission for all Mainstage performances is $10 for adults and $7 for senior citizens over age 55 and children 12 and under.

For the children’s performance “How To Eat Like A Child,” all seats are $5.

The Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre is $30 per person which includes dinner at a participating restaurant of your choice.

Group rates and season tickets are available.
