Students arrived at WVU Tech in mid-June to begin the 45th year of the Upward Bound program on the Montgomery campus. The program consists of six weeks of academic courses for high school and college-bound students from Clay, Fayette and Raleigh counties.
The academic offerings include courses such as reading, math, science, composition and literature, and Spanish. In the afternoon, students are given a choice of electives such as silk screening, drama, philosophy, creative writing, exercise and weight training, and computer lab.
Students are taken on outings such as whitewater rafting, movies, Summersville Lake, cookouts, college tours (in state and out of state), WV Power baseball games, Waterways, and a final historic trip to Washington, D.C. The program enables students the opportunity to see many of their state’s attractions and scenic beauty.
For questions about Upward Bound, you may contact Jennifer Bunner, director, or Ann Ruckman, assistant coordinator.
