A town meeting on July 26 will focus on steering Fayette County’s western-most city into the future.
Local leaders and community member alike are invited to the meeting, which is set for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26 at the UKV Economic Development Corporation’s auditorium, located at 326 Third Avenue. The goal is to develop a “plan of action,” says Diana Wilson, executive director of the UKVEDC.
According to Wilson, Montgomery has been chosen to receive about $25,000 in expert advice in areas such as economic development, landscape architecture and community revitalization. The advice will come from a team of professional and student volunteers from West Virginia University and the W.Va. Division of Rural Health and Recruitment.
Included in the meeting will be a presentation of the “First Impressions Report,” developed by Kelly Nix and Steve Bonanno, both with WVU Extension Service. “Much time and effort” went into completing the report, Wilson said.
“We invite each and every resident to attend and show support for community improvement efforts,” said Wilson. “This is an opportunity to get involved with your community.”
According to Mayor Jim Higgins, the “First Impressions” report will be given to the community design team for suggestions and recommendations on economic development and other needs vital to the city’s future success.
At the completion of the project, the plan calls for having some funds left over to complete a small project which will be left behind to commemorate the study, the mayor added.
Light refreshments will be served at Monday’s meeting.
