Gauley Bridge gearing up for festival

— The Town of Gauley Bridge is gearing up for the annual celebration of its incorporation. Officials have scheduled a large variety of events to honor the town’s 1978 incorporation.

A highlight will be a Big Band Social, which will be held at the Gauley Bridge Senior Center on Friday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. The crowning of the 2010 Gauley Bridge Town Celebration Belle will be at 6:30 p.m.

The Gauley Bridge Belle title will be awarded to a woman age 65-or-older. A letter must be submitted to the town as to why your candidate should be chosen. Letters must be received by Sept. 6 and mailed to: Stephanie Fout, Town Hall, P.O. Box 490, Gauley Bridge, WV 25085.

Big Band era music will be provided by Bump City Connection.

Friday, Sept. 10

Sunday, Sept. 12

2 p.m. -– Children’s pageant, GBCC Auditorium

10 a.m. -– Police/fire 3-on-3 basketball, GBCC gym

1 p.m. -– Golf tournament, Hawk’s Nest Golf Course

10 a.m. -– Chili cook-off

11 a.m. -– Children’s contests: Hula hoop, limbo, Oreo stacking, jumping rope, bubble blowing, bicycle decorating

11 a.m. -– Judging for chili

12 p.m. -– Myers Amusements

1 p.m. -– Town celebration parade: Scrabble Creek, Main Street past City National to the campground

2 p.m. -– Trophy presentation

2 p.m. -– Cookie and cupcake decorating contest, sponsored by Foodland

3 p.m. -– Hot rod display

4 p.m. -– Fire safety house

4:30 p.m. -– Lost Cannon Bluegrass Band

All activities will be held in the Foodland parking lot unless otherwise specified.

In case of rain, most activities will be moved to the GBCC gym and auditorium. If it rains on Saturday, the fireworks will be moved to Sunday at 8:30 p.m.
