Clarence Bowen Jr.
Clarence Bowen Jr., 78, of Oak Hill, died April 10, 2008, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.
Born Oct. 10, 1929, at Longacre, he was the son of the late Clarence Bowen Sr. and Grace Tucker Bowen. He also was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lois Bowen, on March 7, 2006; a sister, Janet Bowen; a brother, Frank Bowen; and a son, Paul Bowen.
Clarence was a self-employed construction worker and a member of the Jones Avenue Church of God in Oak Hill, and attended the Carlisle Church of God.
Surviving: his son, Danny Bowen and wife, Vickie, of Fairfax, Va.; brothers, the Rev. Gene Bowen and wife, Marion, of Oak Hill, Allen Bowen of Charleston, James Bowen of Fredericksburg, Va., the Rev. John Bowen and wife, Jo, of Charleston, and the Rev. David Bowen of Malden; a sister, Jaunita See of Charlton Heights; granddaughters, Debbi Compton of Dumfries, Va., and Kim Bowen of Fayetteville; and great-grandchildren, Skyler and Kaitlyne Compton of Dumfries, Va.
Funeral service was April 16 at the High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill. Interment was in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.

David “Jack” Christian
David “Jack” Christian, 69, of Campbell, Calif., died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends, on April 15, 2008.
Born May 23, 1938, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Roy and Isabella Latham Christian. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Ted, on Jan. 3, 2008.
Jack attended Gauley Bridge High School and Morris Harvey College where he was a fierce football competitor.
In 1957, after his football career, Jack enlisted in the Navy. It was during his Navy career that Jack met his wife, Margie Weiss.
Jack and Margie’s journey began on Jan. 17, 1959, and included wonderful memories in their nearly 50 years of marriage. In 1966, Jack and Margie moved from Virginia to Campbell, where Jack began his career as a firefighter for the City of Campbell. Jack was a dedicated and hard worker whose greatest characteristic was being a provider for his wife and eight children.
Jack loved to laugh, coach, eat, drink, listen to country music, and work. Jack’s personality was dynamic, flamboyant, contagious, loving and courageous.
Surviving: his wife, Margie; children, Margie (Jim), Ali (Jeff), David (Kathryn), Matt (Susan), Petere (Danielle), Kevin (Mary), Jeff (Delia), and Monica (Neil); grandchildren, Andrea, Andrew, Emily, Ryan, Nicholas, Capriana, Alia, Jack, Sydney, Kelly, Edward, Payton; great-grandchildren, Joseph and Delainy; and a sister, Zenda Vance of Dixie.
A memorial mass was held April 21 at St. Lucy’s Church in Campbell.
Ruth E. Davis
Ruth E. Davis, 75, died April 16, 2008, at Montgomery General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born May 21, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ira and Allie Pack Medley. She also was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roy W. Davis; and siblings, Albert Medley, Robert Medley, and Carolyn Medley.
Ruth was a faithful member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and was an active member of the Willing Workers, Missionary Society, and choir. Ruth was a devoted wife, loving mother and supportive friend and family member. She will be missed by all!
Surviving: her eight children and devoted son-in-law, Ethan Davis (St. Louis, Mo.), Sharon Davis (Columbus, Ohio), Cassandra (Sand) Davis (Montgomery), Valerie Futrell (Columbus), Shirl and Joseph Burrow (Beards Fork), Roy W. Davis Jr. (Oak Hill), Glen Davis (Princeton) and Brad Davis (Charlotte, N.C.); siblings, Harold Medley (Columbus), Inez Sherrod (Annapolis, Md.), Marion Dillard (Beards Fork) and Edna Hopkins (Charleston); nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Service was April 19 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church at Beards Fork with Pastor Earl Jackson officiating. Burial followed in Meadow Haven Memorial Park at Ingram Branch.

Mark Kidd
Mark Edgar Kidd, 82, of Gallagher, died April 15, 2008, after a long illness.
Born Nov. 7, 1925, at Kimberly, he was the son of the late Narry Wesley and Anna Kidd. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Kidd; his brothers, Charles, Fred and Sammy Kidd; and sisters, Alice Giles, Mary Lawson, Beulah Kidd and Phyllis Kidd.
Mr. Kidd served in the United States Marines in the First Marine Division on Iwo Jima and Okinawa during World War II.
He was retired from Cannelton Coal Company and was a member of Local Union 8843. He had been an active coal miner for more than 40 years and a member of the United Mine Workers for over 60 years.
Surviving: his children, Donna Yokubinas and husband, Paul, of Georgia, Karen Mink and husband, Ron, of Gallagher, and Barry Kidd and wife, Yolanda, of Standard; grandchildren, J.J. Frederick and wife, Kristen, and Shawn Frederick and wife, Monica, all of Georgia, Stephanie Mink of Gallagher and Kari Kidd of Standard; great-grandchild, Alina Frederick; special “son,” Verelyn (Babe) Weems; brothers, Frank Kidd, Howard Kidd, Narry Wesley “June” Kidd Jr.; and sisters, Nancy Keitz and Belva Eary.
Funeral service was April 19 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. David Mitchell and the Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial followed at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Carmen Leigh Gay Walton
Carmen Leigh Gay Walton, 49, of Lochgelly, died April 15, 2008, at St. Mary's Medical center in Huntington.
Born Dec. 22, 1958, at Decota, she was the daughter of the late John Floyd and Earnestine Burgess Gay. A brother, James E. Gay, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Walton was a member of the Baptist faith and attended a Pentecostal church and was a homemaker.
Surviving: husband, Ellis “Doc” Walton; son, Samuel Adam Walton Sr. and wife, Tiffany, of Oak Hill; brother, John Gay of Oak Hill; sisters, Shirley G. Evans of St. Albans, Mary Frances Hostetter of Oak Hill, Anna McCormick of Hurricane and Sandra Hodge of Arkansas; and grandchildren, Sulyna Goodson, Lilly Walton and Samuel Adam Walton Jr., all of Lochgelly.
Services were April 19 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Joe Cuthbertson officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.
