Olive L. Nottingham-Ramsey, 71, of Kincaid, died April 26, 2008, at Plateau Medical Center.
Born Oct. 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Ethel Nottingham of Fayette County. She also was preceded in death by her son, Jesse Ray Nottingham; as well as her brothers, Junior, Carl, Gene, Homer, and Mason Nottingham.
A woman with an unlimited capacity for her family, Olive could always be found taking care of a relative or friend who was in need when no one else could help. Olive took it upon herself to provide extended care for a dear family friend, Julia Coleman, after a debilitating stroke for several years until her passing. Her son, Ray, also benefited from her selfless generosity as he fought a battle against cancer, and was permitted a degree of grace at the end of his life which only a loving mother could give. In her final years, Olive took care of her sister, Rose Anderson, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. Never one to think of herself first, her final concerns were for the continued care of Rose, a very dear member of our family.
Home improvement and remodeling were a passion of Olive’s. Rarely could you find her house in the same configuration as your last visit, but you could always be sure that it was better than before. She poured her heart and soul into making her house a home and it became a beautiful expression of her being. Her favorite creative outlet, however, was her guitar, which she ultimately became quite good at. Her nephews and nieces will always remember the sounds of Aunt Olive strumming her guitar on a warm spring evening when they were young.
Surviving: her nephew, Darrell Lee Nottingham-Pritt and his wife, Beverly; her brother, Earl Johnston; sisters, Rose Anderson, Arlene Mullins, Faye Ferrell, and Shirley Maynard; her grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews of the Nottingham family.
