Katie M. Kidd Grounds
Katie M. Kidd Grounds, 95, of Aiken, S.C., formerly of Kincaid and Scott Depot, died May 3, 2007, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Born April 23, 1912, at Vanetta, she was the daughter of the late Ira Kidd and Ollie Snodgrass Kidd Wade. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Carmon Grounds Sr.; a son, Ronnie C. Grounds; and 12 brothers and sisters.
She was a retired school teacher of Collins High School, Oak Hill.
Mrs. Grounds was a member of the Church of God, Scott Depot. She graduated with honors from Morris Harvey College in Charleston.
Surviving: sons, Alfred C. Grounds Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Magnolia Springs, Ala., and Kenneth Grounds and wife, Elaine, of Robertsdale, Ala.; daughters, Patricia L. Franklin and husband, Benjamin, of Aiken, Janet Reed and husband, Jack, of Aiken, and Marilyn R. Brooks and husband, Kenneth, of Ogden, Utah; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Service was May 8 at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with Rev. Roy Hamilton officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Christ Central Mission of Aiken, 3605 Richland Ave., W., Aiken, SC 29801.

William Johnson Jr.
William Alfred (Duke) Johnson Jr. of Beards Fork died April 27, 2007.
Born July 22, 1951, in Beards Fork, he was the son of Shirley Johnson and the late William Johnson. He also was preceded in death by his brother, David.
On Monday, April 23, he surrendered his life to Christ and on Friday, four days later, he went home to be with the Lord.
Mr. Johnson attended Fayette County schools and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1970. He worked at Carbon Fuel and North America Roofing Systems.
He was a very special person and, if you ever met him, there was no way that you would ever forget him. He was a person who always said what he thought and left you to like it or not.
He loved fishing, his cars, his “oldies” music, and his family, especially his two daughters and three grandchildren.
Surviving: his wife, Sheila Ann Johnson of Beards Fork; children, Toie Mitchell of Alliance, Ohio, and Sylvia (Dustin) Bell of Germany; mother, Shirley Johnson of Beards Fork; sisters: Shirldenia (Isaac) Burrow of Kimberly, Sondra (William) Judd of Beards Fork, Deborah (Joseph) Barrett of Columbus, Ohio, Tammy (Ronnie) Stewart of Kimberly, and Carolita Mealy of Lexington, Ky.; brothers, Nathaniel (Bonita) Johnson of Kincaid, Aiphonso (Theresa) Johnson of Mt. Carbon, Kenneth (Joann) Johnson of Beards Fork, and Derek (Ashley) Johnson of Charleston; grandchildren, Demetrius, Kaylani, and Akiyah; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Services were May 4 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Beards Fork, with the Rev. Terrance Hamm officating. Burial followed in Meadow Haven Memorial Park, Ingram Branch.

Jackie Lee Miller
Jackie Lee Miller, 68, of Ansted, died May 6, 2007, following a short illness.
Born Dec. 26, 1938, at Martha, he was the son of the late Henry L. Miller and Vira W. Brackenrich Miller. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Miller.
Jackie was a retired Sergeant of the West Virginia State Police with 29 years of service.
Surviving: his wife, Sue Miller; a daughter, Jeretta Ford and husband, Rick, of London; sons, Cary L. Miller and wife, April, of Millboro, Va., John C. Miller and wife, Kim, of Lerona, and Jack A. Miller and wife, Tina, of Ripley; and grandchildren, Katie, Kayla, Logan, Levi, Sam and Olivia.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 9 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with the Rev. Stanley Epling officiating. Burial will follow in Jeanette Cemetery at Lookout.
Graveside rites will be conducted by West Virginia State Police Honor Guards.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Meredith ‘Dee’ White III
Meredith “Dee” White III, 42, of Beckley, died April 26, 2007.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kimberly, and a graduate of Valley High School. He served in the United States Army and was a former employee of Verizon.
He had a passion for working with the youth and his three sons, on whom he had a great impact. He coached the North Beckley Little League football team, “Bulldogs,” and the East Beckley Little League football team, “Wildcats,” which won two championships; he was sure to have prayer before and after each game. He was voted Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006. He also assisted in coaching the Beckley Eagles wresting team.
Meredith was preceded in death by his sister, Angela White Davis, and his father, Meredith White Jr.
Surviving: his wife, Angela White; sons, Marcus, Matthew and Myles White; mother, Shirley White of Kimberly; brothers, Malcolm and Michael White of Kimberly; a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Service was May 5 at First Baptist Church, Kimberly, with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Burial followed in Meadow Haven Memorial Park, Ingram Branch.
