William L. Counts



William L. Counts, 89, of Hansford, died June 29 2008.

Born Aug. 8, 1918, in Hansford, he was the son of the late Ezekiel and Ida Shain Counts. He also was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Counts.

Mr. Counts was a lifelong resident of Hansford and a member of the Old Kanawha Baptist Church.

He was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways with 28 years of service.

Surviving: his wife of 52 years, Opal Counts; son, Bill Counts and his wife, Theresa, of Hansford; and grandchildren, Shawn, Laura and Ryan Counts.

Service was July 3 at Old Kanawha Baptist Church, Pratt, with the Rev. David Baughan officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

The family requests donations be made to Hospice Care of Dunbar, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

Rosa DeMarco



Rosina DeMarco, 93, of Boomer, died June 30, 2008.

Born Jan. 29, 1915, in Boomer, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Catherine Falbo DeMarco. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jennie DeMarco Marshall.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Church, Boomer, where she was a former member of St. Anthony’s Society and a former choir member.

Surviving: nieces, Rosemary Marshall, Catherine Marshall and Dolores Marshall, all of Boomer, and Josephine Marshall Woody of Conover, N.C.; nephew, Russell Marshall of Marietta, Ga.; five great-nieces, two great-nephews, nine great-great-nephews and two great-great-nieces.

Mass of Christian burial was July 3 at St. Anthony’s Shrine Catholic Church in Boomer with Fr. John Rice as celebrant. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

Earl D. Gray



Earl D. “Bo” Gray, 71, of Jodie, died July 3, 2008, in CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston, after an extended illness.

Born July 29, 1936, in Jodie, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ruth P. Claytor Gray. He also was preceded in death by sisters, Rosalee White and Norene Groves.

Mr. Gray was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving: his wife, Sue McGraw Gray; sons and their wives, Brent and Belinda Gray and Shawn and Shelia Gray, all of Jodie; grandsons, Colton Gray and Clay Gray; and sisters, Eleanor Harvey of Jodie, Mary Lou Gardner of South Charleston and Norma Nutter of Jodie.

Service was July 6 at Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Dennis Preast officiating. Burial was in Rich Creek Cemetery, Jodie.

Clifton Grose



Clifton Grose, 75, of East Bank, died June 30, 2008, at CAMC Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Grose was a Korean War veteran and a retired coal miner.

Surviving: his “girls,” Mitzy and Cricket; wife, Wanda; children, Brian of Gallagher, Travis and his wife, Jennifer, of Montgomery, and Tabatha of Crown Hill; stepchildren, Darrell McMillion, Ronnie Keffer and wife, Tina, P.J. Keffer and wife, Mandy, and Paul Keffer; grandchildren, Hannah, Morgan, Austin, Jacob, Jessica, Lindsey, Elizabeth, Allen, Justin and John. Also surviving are former wife, Pauline, and children, Teresa and husband Mike, Sharon and JR, and their children.

Service was July 3 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. Claude R. Miller officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.

The family requests donations be made to Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, 1248 Greenbrier St., Charleston, WV 25311.

Sharon Kay Harmon



Sharon Kay Harmon, 61, of Surfside Beach, S.C., died June 29, 2008, at Medical University of South Carolina after a short illness.

Born in Alloy, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Marie Stone.

Surviving: her husband, Arlen Harmon of Surfside Beach; sons, Timothy Harmon and his wife, Penny, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Chris Harmon and wife, Emily, of Lexington, NC; daughter, Tina Harmon Elkins and her husband, Ron, of Palm Coast, Fla.; and grandchildren, Zach, Whitley and Sara.

Richard Hudnall, 65, of Holly Grove, died June 27, 2008.

There was no service or visitation.

Ann Pickens



Mrs. Ann Cosgrove Pickens, 74, formerly of Huntsville, died June 22, 2008, in Decatur, Ala.

Mrs. Pickens was a member of the Central Baptist Church, Decatur, and was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Don Pickens of Huntsville.

She was a member of the Huntsville Dental Auxiliary and was a graduate of Florence State University.

Surviving: daughters, Kelly Sanders and husband, Rob, of Decatur, and Missy Bouldin and husband, Walter, of Huntsville; grandchildren, Drew, Forrest and Sydney Sanders, and Lily and Trey Bouldin, sisters, Barbara Fleet and Alice Cosgrove, both West Virginia, and Mary Sue Flores of Tuscumbia; and brother, Tom Cosgrove of West Virginia.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Program of the Mental Health Association in Morgan County, PO Box 1502, Decatur, AL 35602.
