Alta Marie Broughman
Alta Marie Broughman, 59, of Vaughan, died July 8, 2008, in Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, of injuries received in an automobile accident in Beckwith on Tuesday.
Born Nov. 22, 1948, in Charleston, she was the daughter of the late Jonas A. and Thelma Walkup Broughman.
She was a former employee of Merchants National Bank, Montgomery, and a graduate of the National Business College, Roanoke, Va. She was a member of Bell Creek Missionary Baptist Church, Dixie.
She was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 38, Montgomery, and a member of the CEOS, Dixie.
Surviving: a special friend, Dewey Eugene Berry of Craigsville, and several cousins and good friends.
Service was July 13 at the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Lee Swor officiating. Burial was in Dotson-Simpson Cemetery, Keslers Cross Lanes.

Gloria Conley
Mrs. Gloria Conley, 82, of West Logan, died July 7, 2008, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born July 17, 1925, in Cannelton, she was the daughter of the late James and Ida Flint. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Charles Flint, and a sister, Margaret Dunlavy.
Gloria was a homemaker and a member of the West Logan Church of God. She was a loving wife, grandmother (Nan) and great-grandmother who will be missed beyond words and was loved and cherished by all who knew her.
Surviving: her loving husband of 61 years, James; son and daughter, James (Elizabeth) Conley Jr. of West Logan and Susan (Roger) Browning of Vickers Branch of Chapmanville; grandson, Brian; great-grandchildren, Cody of Nitro and Haleigh Lilly of Chapmanville; sisters, Lena Doles of Georgia and Jimmie Oliver of Cannelton; her precious Pekinese, Toby, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were July 10 at the West Logan Church of God with Rev. James Hughes and Rev. Roger Stewart officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Ida M. Rhodes DeMontier
Mrs. Ida M. (Rhodes) (Williams) DeMontier, 78, of Lynn, Mass., died in Salem Hospital on July 11, 2008, after a long illness.
Born in Mount Carbon, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Virginia (Woods) Rhodes. She also was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Diane Guidicianne.
She was raised in West Virginia and was a graduate of Montgomery High School, Montgomery. She had lived in Lynn the past 42 years.
Ida enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. She was an avid Red Sox fan. She also enjoyed trips to Foxwoods. She was a homemaker who had worked in Hammersmith Nursing Home in Saugus and Tony’s Pizza in Marblehead.
Surviving: her husband, James E. DeMontier; sons, Gary Williams and his wife, Janet, of West Virginia, Edward Williams and his wife, Heather, of Lynn, and David Williams of West Virginia, daughters, Donna Often and her husband, Gary, of Lynn, Patricia Brogna and her husband, Antonio, and Cheryl Williams of Lynn; stepchildren, James DeMontier Jr. of Newton, N.H., Jeffrey DeMontier of Washington, D.C., and Elaine DeMontier of Lynn; brothers, Everett Rhodes of West Virginia and Donald Rhodes of Wilmington, Mass.; a sister, Pauline Comer of West Virginia; and 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. in the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rte 129), Lynn, with burial following in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Frances E. Bennett Drukker
Frances E. Bennett Drukker, 70, of Montgomery, died July 8, 2008.
Born Feb. 2, 1938, at Welch, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Willa Jean Ray Bennett. She also was preceded in death by her son, Antino Colobro, and six siblings.
Mrs. Drukker was formerly from New Jersey and was of the Episcopal faith.
Surviving: children, Dominica Antonela, Jeanna Antonela and her husband, Dino, Franco Colobro, Angelo Colobro, all of New Jersey, and Maria Gamble of Pennsylvania; sisters, Jacquelin Taylor of Peterstown and Audie Colbird Croyle of Lashmeet; brothers, Charles Bennett of Bucyrus, Ohio, and John Wayne Bennett of Kernersville, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Service was July 11 at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens, with the Rev. Robert Croyle officiating. Burial followed in Bell Cemetery on Bud Mountain, Wyoming County.

James Hall Sr.
James “Jeep” Edward Hall Sr. died July 11, 2008, at The Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston after an extended illness.
Born July 18, 1922, in Kentucky, he was the son of the late Chester and Clara Cartwright Hall. He also was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Leona Mae Wiley Hall; sisters, Inez Lunsford, Thelma Webb, Gytha Tony, and Catherine Martin; and brothers, Freeman, Amos, and Charles Hall.
Mr. Hall moved to Paint Creek in 1930 where he lived the remainder of his 85 years. Jeep was a retired coal miner and was a proud member of the United Mine Workers of America.
A World War II veteran, he entered the U.S. Army as a combat engineer in 1943, serving with Company B of the 275th Engineering Battalion, 75th Infantry Division. During the Battle of the Bulge, Sgt. Hall was awarded the Purple Heart for a head injury sustained from German artillery on Christmas Eve, 1944 in Belgium.
Upon returning home to West Virginia in 1946 after his honorable discharge from the service, he resumed his coal-mining career and met the woman who would become his wife, Leona Mae Wiley. They married in Catlettsburg, Ky., on Aug. 18, 1947.
Jeep enjoyed life immensely and everyone who knew him benefited from his good humor, gentle ways, and of course, his jolly laugh. His many hobbies and interests throughout his life included bass and trout fishing, hunting, bee keeping, softball, poker, and he was locally known as being one of the best pool players in the Upper Kanawha Valley.
Surviving: his granddaughter, Terra Marie Hall Snider and husband, Terry, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; grandson, Kenneth Eugene Wagner and wife, Debbie, of Charleston; great-grandchildren, Grayson James Snider, Ava Marie Snider, Kenrick Wade Wagner, Keely Marie Wagner and Nathan Caleb Wagner; sister, Juanita Helton of Lafayette, Ind.; sister-in-law, Eloise Hall of Point Pleasant; special daughter-in-law, Janice Marie Seacrist of Winston-Salem; special friends, William “Bill” Cordle of Durham, N.C. and Rosie Kardos of South Charleston; and son, James Edward Hall II.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at O’Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery, with the Rev. David Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Montgomery Memorial Park with military honors presented by Post 8366 Veteran of Foreign Wars of Gauley Bridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Drive, Charleston, WV 25311.

Sarah Jane Neil
Sarah Jane “Grannie” Goodner Davis Neil, 85, of Lockwood, died July 7, 2008.
Services were July 13 at the White Funeral Home, Summersville. Burial followed in the Neil Family Cemetery, Lockwood.

Fonda Kay Perkins
Fonda Kay Perkins, 64, of Parkersburg, and formerly of Callen Ave., Morgantown, died July 9, 2008, at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.
Born Jan. 18, 1944, in Hico, she was the daughter of Kenneth Jones of Boomer, and the late Martha McVey Jones. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everett C. Perkins, on March 8, 1998.
Fonda received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia Institute of Technology. She worked as a phlebotomist at WVU Hospitals and then retired as an Academic Biology Lab Manager at WVU. She was also a member of the Wyngate Golden Girls Club.
Surviving, in addition to her father: daughters, Elaine Kay Cruse and husband Matthew of Kingston, Tenn., and Michelle DeLaney and husband, Philip, of Parkersburg; and grandchildren, Ryan DeLaney, Alec DeLaney and Brad DeLaney.
Funeral service was July 12 at Hastings Funeral Home, Morgantown, with Pastor Dan Meadows officiating. Interment followed in East Oak Grove Cemetery, Morgantown.

Mildred A. Toney
Mrs. Mildred A. “Millie” Toney, 82, of Brownsville, died July 8, 2008, in Beckwith of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Born June 6, 1926, in Vaughan, she was a daughter of the late Clarence L. and Flora Elkins Fagan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ray Toney; a son, Bradley Dale Toney; and a sister, Frances Lucas.
Mrs. Toney was a homemaker and a member of Bible Baptist Church, Belva.
Surviving: a daughter and her husband, Pamela and John Kessler of Cross Lanes; son and his wife, Hank and Cindy Toney of Glen Ferris; grandchildren, Matt Kessler, Samantha Kessler, Seth Toney, Luke Toney and Alison Toney; two great-grandchildren; and sisters and their husbands, Virginia and John D. Stone of Fayetteville, Janet and Clyde Roop of Pound, Va., Carol and Oliver Kelly of Buckhannon and Betty and Curtis Harvey of Jodie.
Service was July 10 at the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. James Waldeck officiating. Burial was in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
