Walter R. Elliott


Walter R. Elliott, 76, of Adonijah Community, Lizemores, died July 24, 2008, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
Born March 25, 1932, at Lizemores, he was a son of the late Earl and Clara Stone Elliott. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Faye Elliott; and his sisters, Lydia Lockwood Sanders, Mary Moris and Carrie Berniece Morris.
Mr. Elliott was a retired employee from Elkem Metals Company, Alloy, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 7695, Ansted, and of the Christian Church of Lizemores.
Surviving: his daughter, Donna Elliott of Cross Lanes; sons and their wives, Freddie and Genny Elliott of Cross Lanes, Teddie and Lynn Elliott of Mount Olive, and Earl and Jana Elliott of Lizemores; a sister, Louise Moore of Bentree; a brother, William B. Elliott of Dixie; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Service was July 27 in the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Naaman H. Moore officiating. Burial was in Elliott Cemetery, Lizemores, with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 7695, Ansted.
The family requests that contributions be sent to HospiceCare, 1143 Dunbar Ave., Dunbar, WV 25064.

Keith L. Holcomb


Keith Leonard Holcomb, 54, of Cedar Grove, formerly a resident of Lizemores, died July 28, 2008, at CAMC Memorial Division, Charleston.
Born June 5, 1954, at Richwood, he was the son of Eleanor Morris Holcomb of Lizemores and the late Kenny Franklin Holcomb. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Sharlene Evans, and a brother, Kenneth Wayne Holcomb.
Mr. Holcomb was a former water plant operator for the Town of Pratt.
Surviving, in addition to his mother: his wife, Carolyn Sue Craigo Holcomb; daughters, Valerie Ovaldson of Cedar Grove; son, Kenny Holcomb of Cedar Grove; granddaughter, Caitlyn Ovaldson of Cedar Grove; sister, Geraldene Bolno of North East, Md.; and brother, Jimmy Franklin Holcomb of Lizemores.
Graveside service was July 31 in the Holcomb Family Cemetery, Lizemores, with Rev. Gary Johnston and Rev. Jadie Morris officiating. There was no visitaition.

Chad Ellis Tabor


Chad Ellis Tabor, 29, of Lockbridge, died July 25, 2008, in the Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, following a short illness.
Born March 4, 1979, in Clifton Forge, Va., he was the son of James Tabor of Meadow Bridge and Ann Potter and Clay Neff of Clifton Forge, Va.
Chad was a 1997 graduate of Meadow Bridge High School and West Virginia University School of Technology, Montgomery, where he graduated with a degree in electronic engineering. He worked for Appalachian Power Company, Glasgow, and was a member of the Lockbridge United Methodist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his parents: his son, Seaton Joel Tabor of Meadow Bridge; brothers, Seth Tabor of Meadow Bridge, Dustin Potter of Covington and Daniel Potter of Tennessee; maternal grandparents, Homer and Cleo Gunter of Low Moor, Va.; maternal aunts and uncles, Jeff and Carrie Gunter, Robin and George Simpson, Gaye and Kester Dingus, all of Low Moor, Va., Bobby and Patty Gunter of Tennessee, Billy and Lisa Gunter of Salem, Va., and Lee and Connie Gunter of Covington, Va.; paternal aunts and uncles, Susan Tabor, John Tabor, Mary and Paul McClung, Willie and Donna Tabor, David and Mary Tabor, all of Meadow Bridge, and Etta and Paul Lively of Prince George, Va.; and many cousins and friends.
Services were July 27 at Smathers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Roger Booth officiating. Burial followed in the Gwinn Cemetery at Lockbridge.

Virginia L. Shears


Virginia L. Shears, 85, of Powellton, died July 28, 2008.
Born Dec. 26, 1922, in Soddy, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late James and Fannie Fritts Branam. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Shears.
Mrs. Shears loved to crochet and had a passion for reading.
Surviving: children, Norris Shears and his partner, Linda, of Weaverville, Calif., Larry Shears and his wife, Juanita, of Chesapeake, Pete Shears of Powellton, Connie Foster and her husband, Donald, of Columbia, and Carol Jones of Chesapeake; 8 grandchildren, including Lt.Col. Tina Clements with the U.S. Army in Baghdad; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, James Branam of North Carolina; and sister, Theresa Hopkins of Powellton.
Service was Aug. 3 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Tom Holstein officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.
