Jerry Giles
Jerry Eugene Giles, 69, of Gallagher, died Aug. 9, 2008, in Hubbard Hospice House.
Born June 19, 1939, at Kingston, he was the son of the late Hansford and Alice Giles.
Mr. Giles was retired from Eastern Associated Coal and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America with over 30 years of membership.
He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Surviving: his wife of 45 years, Margaret Johnson Giles; son, Jerry Edward Giles and his wife, Bonnie, of Chelyan; grandson, Jason Giles and his wife, Gerri, of Cedar Grove; step-grandchildren, Thomas and Tiffany Massey of Chelyan; great-granddaughter, Selina Giles of Cedar Grove; sister, Annie Wright of Montgomery; brother, Charles Giles of Gallagher; and several nieces and nephews.
Service was Aug. 12 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow with military honors.

Kereen ‘K-Roc’ Gray
Kereen “K-Roc” A. Gray, 31, of Mt. Hope, died Aug. 2, 2008, at Ruby Memorial hospital following a short illness.
Born June 29, 1977, in Montgomery, he was the son of the late Lee Phillip Gray and Carolyn A. Brown Gray. He also was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Martha Alexander; paternal grandparents, William H. Gray and Louise Gray; great-niece, Tamiyah Annaye` Eloy; aunts, Linda A. Gray Merritt and Dorothy Allen; and uncles, Eugene Gray, John Gray and William “Chief” Gray.
Mr. Gray was a 1995 graduate of Mt. Hope high School. Prior to his illness, he was employed by Cracker Barrel.
Surviving: his wife, Cary; children, Ahkarah Lynn Ali, Elijah Kereen Ali and Kalista JoLee; brothers, Lamont (Fannie) of Oak Hill, Gregory and Robbie, both of Mt. Hope; sisters, Sheila (William) of Ft. Hood, Texas, Portia (Charlie) of Mt. Hope and Sabrina (Brad) of Atlanta, Ga.; grandfather, James Brown of Washington, D.C.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Aug. 9 at the Glorious Church of God in Christ, Mt. Hope, with Elder Robert Hicks and Bishop John Grant officiating. Burial followed in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley.

Barbara E. Hudnall
Barbara E. Hudnall, 73, of Pratt, died Aug. 6, 2008, after a long illness.
Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Mahan, she was the daughter of Lily Maudie Withrow and the late Fred E. Withrow. In addition to her father, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F Hudnall, and brothers, James Withrow and Rodney Withrow.
Mrs. Hudnall was a resident of Pratt and a member of the Handley Baptist Church.
Barbara was a retired library assistant at West Virginia University Institute of Technology and was a member of Eastern Star.
Surviving: her mother, Maudie Withrow, 95; her sons, David Ray and Paul Steven Hudnall and their wives; and her grandchildren, Amanda Hudnall, Abby Lincoln, Jennifer Hudnall, and Brian Hudnall, all currently residing in South Carolina.
Graveside service was Aug. 9 at 1Montgomery Memorial Park, London, with Rev. Lewis Villers officiating.
The family requests donations be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc.

Lloyd D. Lee
Lloyd Duane Lee, 82, of Charlton Heights, died Aug. 3, 2008, after a short illness.
Born Aug. 22, 1925, in Arlington, S.D., he was the son of the late Halvor and Olive Hefte Lee. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hagen Lee; sons, Daniel Lee and Thomas Lee; brothers, Royce Lee and Robert Lee; and sisters, Francis Lee and Mavis Johnson.
Lloyd served in the U.S. Army (he was a member of the 51st Signal Battalion) during the Korean Conflict and then farmed in South Dakota for a year. He returned to school and graduated from South Dakota State College in Brookings, S.D., with both B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering.
He taught mechanical engineering courses at SDSU and moved to West Virginia in 1967, where he was a professor and department chairman of mechanical engineering at West Virginia Institute of Technology until his retirement in April 1990. While at WVIT he was faculty advisor for Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and served on many committees. He had professor emeritus status at WVUIT.
Lloyd was an active member of Montgomery Presbyterian Church and was a Grand Mason. Other memberships and organizations included Eagles Club, Rotary Club of Montgomery (Paul Harris Fellow), Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Elks Club.
Surviving: his daughters and their husbands, Laura J. and Brian Klusener of Pittsburg, Kan., Nancy K. and Mark Musick of Honaker, Va., and Karen L. and Bill Crenshaw of Jacksonville, N.C.; grandchildren, Will and Andrew Klusener, Tom and Kristen Crenshaw, and Mary Musick; his brother, Glenn Lee of Batavia, Ill.; and sisters, Shirley Olson of Boise, Idaho, Ruth Olson of Ramona, S.D., and Norma Hansen of Volga, S.D.
A memorial service to celebrate Lloyd’s life was held Aug. 7 at Montgomery Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, with Rev. Joan Stewart and Rev. Shirley Hutchins officiating. It was followed by visitation and luncheon for family and friends at the church. Burial service will follow at a later date in Arlington, S.D.
The family requests donations to the Memorial Fund at Montgomery Presbyterian Church, Box 57, Montgomery, WV 25136.

Mamie Marshalene Nichols
Mamie Marshalene Nichols, 71, of Swiss, died Aug. 3, 2008, at Cornerstone of Huntington, located within St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, after a 14-week illness.
Born March 9, 1937, in Gamoca, she was the daughter of the late Golden and Hattie Kauff Johnson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Nichols; grandson, Jessie Nichols; sister, Bessie Niday Rookstool; and brothers, Sherman, Buddy, Harley, Dempsey and Mervin.
Marshalene was a homemaker, a member of Brownsville Holiness Church, a member of the Nichols Gospel Trio and a well-respected gospel singer and songwriter.
Surviving: her sons and their wives, Daniel “Whitey” and Peggy Nichols, Todd and Mary Nichols, Glen and Brenda Nichols and Steven and Tina Nichols; daughters and their husbands, Christine and Larry Holstein, Rita and Tim Estep and Lisa and Jerry Spaulding; brothers and their wives, Harry and Margie Johnson and Rick and Ruby Johnson; grandchildren, Brian, Jeremy, Erlene, Josh, Scotty, Matthew, Alicia, Tara and husband, Donald, Jonathan, Benjamin, Steven, Gabrielle and Stephanie; and her extended church family at Brownsville Holiness Church.
Service for Marshalene was held Aug. 6 at Brownsville Holiness Church with the Rev. Charles Blankenship and the Rev. Billy Conn officiating. Burial followed in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Victor.

Ruby D. Snyder Saali
Ruby Saali, 83, died July 26, 2008, at her home in Moncks Corner, S.C., after a long illness.
Ruby was born March 4, 1925 in Morrisvale.
Surviving: her husband, Donald Saali; her daughters, Virginia (Tot) Cunningham and Angela Gash, both of Moncks Corner; a sister, Ruth Ann Paschal of Powellton; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek Chapel.
Kenneth A. Tolliver
Kenneth A. Tolliver, 66, of Cain Branch Road, Gauley Bridge, died Aug. 6, 2008, at home.
Born Dec. 22, 1941, in Jodie, he was a son of the late Ballard Tolliver and Josephine Boles Cale.
Mr. Tolliver was a disabled service station attendant.
Surviving: his sisters, Sandra Kay Niday of Montgomery and Elizabeth Ann Blankenship of Gauley Bridge; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Vulia Tolliver of Gauley Bridge and Wayne and Josie Cole of Belva; stepfather, Tom Cole of Gauley Bridge.
Service was Aug. 9 at the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Dennis Preast officiating. Burial was in Naylor Cemetery, Cain Branch Road, Gauley Bridge.
