Lisa Marie Holstein



Lisa Marie Holstein, 42, of Packs Branch, died Aug. 15, 2008, at the Charleston Area Medical Center Memorial Division, following a long illness.

Born Nov. 25, 1965, in Elyria, Ohio, she was the daughter of Steve L. Holstein and Sharon Williams Holstein of Packs Branch.

Lisa was a former retail salesperson, and attended the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. She is a child of the King. She also had attended Beckley College.

Surviving, in addition to her parents: her daughter, Kristen Roberts, and her companion, Nicholas Logan, of Mount Hope; a granddaughter, Alyssa Logan; Lisa’s former husband, Craig Roberts of Point Pleasant; brothers, David Holstein and his wife, Lisa, of Beckley, and their children, Zachary, Savannah, Emma Grace, and Ethan Holstein, a special niece and David’s daughter from a previous marriage, Jennifer Leonard and her husband, Travis, and their son, Cason, of Kansas, Steve Franklin Holstein and wife Jill of Wheeling, and Jamie Holstein and wife Jennifer of Beckley, and their children, Tyler and Austin Holstein, both of Beckley; many uncles, aunts, friends, and extended family; Lisa’s lifelong best friend, Kimberly Menei Ferrell of Chesapeake; and her special friend, Sam Pack of North Carolina.

Funeral services were Aug. 18 at the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church at Bradley, with Pastor Wayne Peters officiating. Burial followed at the Dock Lively Cemetery at Long Branch.

Russell G. Moore



Russell G. Moore, 64, of Lizemores, died Aug. 8, 2008.

Born Oct. 25, 1943, at Indore, he was the son of the late Betty Moore.

Mr. Moore was a former dozer operator in the logging industry and a disabled Army veteran of Vietnam.

Surviving: his wife, Drema Coleman Moore; daughter, Rebecca Sizemore and husband, Frank, of Kincaid; son, Russell G. Moore Jr. of Lizemores; stepdaughters, Tracy Floyd of Bentree, and Verna Underwood of Gauley Bridge; stepsons, Jimmy Coleman and Jason Coleman, both of Gauley Bridge; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was Aug. 13 at Ida Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Bentree, with the Rev. James Elmore officiating. A VFW military service was conducted at the graveside.

A short funeral service also followed the visitation at the funeral home chapel Tuesday evening.

Doris Maria Moyer



Doris Maria Moyer died July 28, 2008.

Born April 28, 1916, in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Melvin J. Moyer Sr. and Hattie Crawford Moyer. Also preceding her in death were brothers, Carl C. Moyer and Melvin Moyer.

Surviving: her son, Stanley Norman of Kimberly; sister, Lucile Moyer of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; nephews, Jimmie Smith of Sierra Vista, and Shawn Ellis of Middletown, Del.

David E. Rhodes



David E. Rhodes, 83, of Handley, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on Aug. 12, 2008.

Born March 9, 1925, at Handley, he was the son of the late Andrew and Henritta Miller Rhodes. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Rhodes, and his twin brother, Andrew Rhodes.

Mr. Rhodes was a retired engineer for CSX Railroad and he was a veteran of the United States Air Force during World War II.

Surviving: children, David Rhodes Jr. of Handley, Lisa Baisi of Beckley, and Mark Ashwell of Mt. Carbon; brothers, Harry Rhodes of Handley and William Rhodes of Maryland; sister, Helen Kneisley of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Anthony and Andrew Falbo, Andrea Kerns, David Rhodes III, James Ashwell, and Tabitha, David Michael and Brandon Ashwell.

Service was Aug. 16 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. James R. Baldwin officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London with military honors presented by Post #8366, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gauley Bridge.

Elizabeth Sleboda



Elizabeth Jane “Liz” Sleboda, 83, of Pratt, died Aug. 11, 2008.

Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hazel Marie Haynes Campbell. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Sleboda.

Mrs. Sleboda was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Montgomery.

She was a former telephone operator with C&P Telephone in Montgomery and also had worked in the Safety Department of Union Carbide’s Alloy Plant.

She was a 50-year member and former Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Madison and was also a 50-year member and Past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine in Montgomery.

Surviving: children, Stephen Sleboda and his wife, Martha, of Charleston, and Jo Ann Garrett and her husband, Dan, of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Helen Arthur of Pratt; brother, Don Campbell and his wife, Judy, of Pratt; grandchildren, Becca Garrett of Charlotte and Kayla Sleboda of Charleston; and step-granddaughter, Laura Thweat of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.

Service was Aug. 15 at First Christian Church in Montgomery with Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.

Memorial contributions can be made in Liz’s memory to the First Christian Church in Montgomery.
