George Fleming

George Allen “Pete” Fleming, 72, of Gallagher, died Nov. 17, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fisher Fleming, and mother, Sally Albin Fleming; as well as his son, George Allen Fleming Jr.; a brother, L.C. White; and a sister, Sylvania Lanham.

Mr. Fleming was a member of the First Baptist Church of Standard and a member of Coal Valley # 74 AF & AM in Montgomery.

He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA.

Surviving: his wife of 48 years, Janie “Sue” Fleming; son, William “Frank” Fleming and his wife, Jennifer, of Belle; daughter-in-law, Emily Fleming of Gallagher; grandchildren, Cody Fleming, Michael Fleming, Sierra Jennings and Lucas Jennings; and several nieces and nephews.

Service was Nov. 19 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery.

Blanche M. Walker Harvey

Blanche M. Walker Harvey, 97, of Jodie, died Nov. 19, 2009, at Johnson’s Elderly Care, Belva.

Born May 22, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Sarah Morton Walker. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Seldon Harvey; a brother, Glen Walker; sisters, Zela Bandy and Della Rider; and an infant son, Clifford “Pat” Harvey.

Mrs. Harvey was a member of the Jodie Baptist Church.

Surviving: her daughter and son-in-law, Gaynell and Austin Boles of Jodie; sons and daughters-in-law, Curtis and Betty Harvey of Jodie, Fred Jr. and Janet Harvey of Brandon, Vermont, Jack and Christina Harvey of Raleigh, N.C., and John and Roxana Harvey of Fredericksburg, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Nov. 23 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Ministers Jadie Morris and Gary Walker officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.

Hobert Kees Sr.

Hobert Earl Kees Sr., 85, of Pratt, formerly of Oak Hill, died Nov. 19, 2009.

Born Dec. 2, 1923, in Denton, Ky., he was the son of the late Roy and Rosa Gallahue Kees. He also was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Imogene Kees, and his brothers, Harlan, Ray and Jerry Kees.

Mr. Kees was retired from Imperial Colliery Coal Company at Burnwell and he attended the Old Kanawha Baptist Church in Pratt.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving: wife, Martha Kees; sons, Hobert Kees Jr. and his wife, Gayle, of Gulfport, Miss., and Victor L. Kees and his wife, Judy, of Cottageville, S.C.; stepsons, Curtis Ray Adkins and his wife, Ruth, of Pratt and Dennis Adkins and his wife, Deborah, of Middleburg, Fla.; brothers, Delmer Kees of Shady Spring, Franklin Kees and his wife, Marlene, of Livingston, and Russell Kees and his wife, Mimi, and Paul Kees and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Holly Grove; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Service was Nov. 22 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. David Baughan officiating. Burial followed in High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill with military honors presented by the U.S. Army.

Candi and Keith Parker

There will be a memorial service Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at 3 p.m. to honor Candi and Keith Parker, daughter and son of Connie Bowen and Eddie Parker.



Alonzo Stabagi

Alonzo “Peanny” Stabagi, 85, of Smithers, died Nov. 18, 2009, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Born Aug. 4, 1924, he was the son of the late Nunizo and Gracia Bisle Stabagi.

Mr. Stabagi was retired from Elkem Metals in Alloy and was a member of the St. Anthony-Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish in Boomer and Montgomery.

He loved hunting.

Surviving: sister, Mary Boyd of Smithers; daughter, Jean and her husband, Gerry “Don” Workman, of Charleston; granddaughter, Andrea Kroger and her husband, Chris, of Morgantown; great-grandchildren, Madison Marie and Jackson William Kroger; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial was Nov. 21 at St. Anthony Shrine Catholic Church at Boomer with Fr. John Rice as celebrant. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.

Larry K. Waugh

Larry K. Waugh, 58, of Gauley Bridge, died Nov. 20, 2009, at Raleigh General Hospital.

Born Dec.19, 1950, at Montgomery, he was the son of the late Guy H. Waugh and Ruby Kincaid of Maple Heights, Ohio.

Mr. Waugh was owner of the Mountain State Tees, Gauley Bridge, a former Fayette County school bus driver, a former baseball coach at Gauley Bridge High School, and a Baptist by faith.

Surviving: his wife, Trudy L. Waugh of Gauley Bridge; daughter, Sherri Waugh of Mt. Carbon; sons and daughter-in-law, Jason and Toni Workman of Mt. Nebo, and Mikell Workman of Charlton Heights; grandsons, Jared Jones and Cayden Carelli, both of Mt. Carbon; brother, Trent Waugh of Falls View; sisters, Sue Greathouse of Maple Heights, Ohio, and Kay Muralski of Parma, Ohio; half-brother, Rev. Bill Kincaid of Gauley Bridge; stepbrother, Ron Hamilton of Lizemores; stepsisters, Kathy Arbogast of Hillsboro, and Keva Hamilton of Cross Lanes; nephew, Trent Waugh II of Belva; and sevaral other neices and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 24 at the Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Rev. Bill Kincaid officiating. Burial followed in the Gauley Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Gary Uston Wood

Gary Uston Wood, 63, of Chesapeake, died Nov. 20, 2009, in CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laird and Letha Bennett Wood; sister, Lillian Olive Hudson; and brothers, Bill and Roger Wood.

Mr. Wood retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass in Newark, Ohio, after 20 years of service and was former owner and operator of Furniture Mart in Prescott, Ariz.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of the Chelyan Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are: son, Shannon Branch and wife Kelly of Palmyra, Va.; daughter, Jennifer Hardin of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Ruth Walker and husband Paul of Hico; brother, Richard Wood and wife Sue of Jasper, Ala.; brother-in-law, Jimmy Hudson; and grandchildren, Natalie, Noah and Belle Branch and Jake Hardin.

Funeral was Nov. 24 at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet. Burial followed in Bennett Cemetery, Saturday Road, Victor.

Beulah Blanche Wriston

Beulah Blanche Wriston, 87, of Oak Hill, died Nov. 18, 2009, at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill.

Born April 17, 1922, at Kincaid, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Guy and Ernie Maud Kincaid Wriston. Her twin brother, Burford Guy Wriston, also preceded her in death, as well as her maternal grandparents, Henry Harrison “Bud” and Norah Blanche Blake Kincaid, and paternal grandparents, Amos Dix and Rebecca Jane McCue Wriston.

Miss Wriston was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Montgomery High School and New River State College.

She was a retired teacher for the Fayette County Board of Education, having taught at Page and Scarbro Elementary schools.

Surviving: several cousins, including Marilyn Kerns and family.

Services were Nov. 21 at the Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Delmas Wolfe officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill.
