Kenneth Leon Clark
Kenneth Leon Clark, 59, of Oak Hill, died Nov. 20, 2008, at CAMC Memorial Division, following a short illness.
Born Aug. 13, 1949, in Gauley Bridge, he was the son of the late Elmer David and Alice Grace Slayton Clark. He also was preceded in death by his sisters, Dolly and Mildred Clark.
Mr. Clark was a disabled press operator for the Canton Drop Forge Factory in Canton, Ohio.
Surviving: his wife, Teresa Clark of Oak Hill; a daughter, Kristina Clark of Magnolia, Ohio; sons, Kory L. Clark of Carrollton, Ohio, and Kary L. Clark of Magnolia, Ohio; sisters, Carol Holcomb and Cloyd of Canton, Ohio, Shirley Walker and Paul of Mount Hope, Margaret Comer of Cleveland, Ohio, and Susan White and Anna Barnett, both of Canton; brothers, Michael Clark and Beth, and David Clark and Peggy, all of Canton; and grandchildren, Kyser Clark, Cole Clark, Gage DeWitt and Kacey Clark.
Funeral service was Nov. 22 at Richmond Chapel United Methodist Church at Ramsey, with Pastor John Syner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Billie Franklin Ferrell
Billie Ferrell died Oct. 30, 2008, at his home in Flora Vista, N.M., surrounded by his family after a short illness.
Born Sept. 15, 1947, in Charleston, he was the son of Orville and Christine Ferrell.
Billie was preceded in death by his father, Orville, in 1972.
He graduated from Collins High School in Oak Hill in 1965. Billie later attended the West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery.
He served in the United States Air Force as a crew chief on the Lockheed 141 Star-Lifter, accruing over 4,000 hours of flying time during the Vietnam War from July 1965 to August 1972.
Billie and his wife, Linda, moved to San Juan County, N.M. in May 1973, where he spent his professional career as a member of the oil field family. Over the last two years he was able to live his dream as owner of PACE, an oil field-related business.
He had previously served on the Aztec (N.M.) City Commission, as well as the mayor of Aztec. He also served on the San Juan County Fair Board for over 17 years as a board member and president.
Surviving: his wife of 36 years, Linda, of the family home in Flora Vista; daughters, JoAnn Beuerle and husband, Mike, of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Heather Ludlow and husband, Brock, of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Shawn Ferrell, and wife, Sarah, of Red River, N.M.; grandchildren, Spencer Beuerle of Rio Rancho and Katelynn Ludlow of Pensacola; his mother, Christine Potts of Columbus, Ohio, brother, Ron Ferrell and wife, Melissa, of Concord, N.C.; sisters, Wilma Ranney and husband, Ron, of Jackson, Mich., Barbara Burchette of Columbus, and Kim Durnal of Tyler, Texas; and a special aunt, Donna Sue Richmond of Golden Valley, Ariz.
A memorial service was held Nov. 1 at the Bloomfield (N.M.) Baptist Church in honor of his life.

Barbara Foster Pennington
Barbara Foster Pennington of Fairlea died Nov. 17, 2008.
Born Aug. 26, 1933, at Belva, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth R. and Dolly V. Holcomb Foster of Kanawha County. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Pennington; brothers, John Foster and Tom Foster; and a stepdaughter, Juanita P. Carter.
Mrs. Pennington was retired from the Greenbrier Manor in Fairlea, former president of People United for Self Help (PUSH), Greenbrier County Chapter, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Surviving: a son, Wayne E. Pennington of Lewisburg; a daughter-in-law, Jodi F. Pennington of Smoot; stepsons, Carl and wife, Edie, of Fairview, Tenn., and Ritchie and wife, Shari, of Charleston; daughters, Vickie Carter, and Denice Pennington and companion, Kevin Thompson, all of Fairlea; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Mancari and husband, Tom, of Winnabow, N.C.; a brother, Kenny Foster of Rand; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Service was Nov. 21 at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with Pastor Stewart Farley officiating. Graveside service followed at the Pennington Family Cemetery, Charleston.

Donnell Byerly Portzline
Donnell Byerly Portzline, 71, of Fayetteville, died Nov. 7, 2008, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
Born Nov. 23, 1936, at Sunbury, Pa., he was the son of the late Walter F. Portzline Sr. and Minnie K. Coryell Portzline. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Skinner; and a brother, Walter F. Portzline Jr.
Mr. Portzline was a professor emeritus at West Virginia Institute of Technology, Montgomery, with 34 years of service. He directed the Upward Bound Program and he was the former director of teacher education.
He attended the Fayetteville United Methodist Church and he did volunteer work for the American Red Cross.
Surviving: his wife, Ruth Ann Ratcliff Portzline of Fayetteville; daughters, Peggy Lynn Ayers and husband, Jeff, of Roanoke, Va., and Patricia Ruth Conover and husband, Dave, of Holland, Pa.; granddaughters, Bethany Conover, Sophia Conover and Greta Conover; niece, Kathryn Barker of Piney View; great-niece, Hannah Barker of Piney View; brothers, Ralph Portzline of Columbus, Ohio, and Jack Portzline of Richmond, Ind.; and several other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Nov. 15 at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn officiating.
