Richard Angel



Richard Angel, 76, of Smithers, died Nov. 22, 2008, in CAMC Memorial in Charleston.

Born Feb. 23, 1932, at Glade Creek, Tenn., he was the son of the late Joe and Callie Milligan Angel. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Edelman Angel; grandson, Ryan Tucker; and brothers, William, Robert, Clyde, Comer, JC and Horace Angel.

Mr. Angel was employed with the Fayette County Board of Education at Valley High School in Smithers.

Richard was also a former coal miner at Central Appalachian Coal Company in Montgomery and Cannelton Coal Company and he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

Surviving: daughter, Tammy Tucker of Witcher Creek; grandson, Todd Tucker of Falls View; granddaughter, Allison Tucker of Crown Hill; sisters, Dorothy Hamlin of Columbus, Ohio, and Ruth Feicke of Boomer; brother, Sam Angel of Mt. Carbon; several nieces and nephews and a host of family friends.

Service was Nov. 25 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Joseph Hubbard officiating. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.

Josephine M. Ellis



Josephine M. Ellis died at home in Belle on her 81st birthday on Nov. 21, 2008, after a lengthy illness.

Born Nov. 21, 1927, in Montgomery, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Myers and Theora Thurman. Mrs. Ellis also was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and her son, Carl.

She was married to Raymond Ellis Jr. on July 15, 1949. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1954, where they raised their three sons, Raymond III, Carl, and James. Mrs. Ellis moved back to West Virginia in 2006 after the death of her husband in December 2003.

Surviving: her son, Raymond, of New York, and James and his wife, Dana, and two grandchildren, Josh Ellis and Alyssa Gordon, all of Anchorage; and her loving caregiver, Marilyn Wojciechowiez and family, of Belle.

Arrangements by Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home. Mrs. Ellis’ remains will be returned to Alaska where the family will have a private ceremony at a later date.



Reba Jarrett Hodge



Reba Jarrett Hodge, 93, of Lookout, formerly of Beech Glenn, died Dec. 1, 2008.

Born June 17, 1915, at Greenview, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Clara Kirk Jarrett. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Mangus Hodge; sons, Edwin and Charles; brothers, Orville, Hartford, Herman, and Martin; sisters, Elsie James, Grace Hinkle, and Edith Burdette; and her great-granddaughter, Stephanie Hodge.

She was a member of the Boomer Church of Christ.

Surviving: her daughter, Jo Ann Williams and son-in-law Bill, with whom she resided; brother, Anderson Jarrett and sister-in-law Irene of Waverly, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and they loved her.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley. Burial will follow in the Hodge Family Cemetery, Artie.

Louie G. Mullins



Louie G. Mullins, 83, of Charleston, died peacefully with his family by his side on Nov. 24, 2008, at the Hubbard Hospice House. He would have celebrated his 84th birthday on Saturday.

Born Nov. 29, 1924, in Roane County, he was the son of the late Grover and Esther Mullins. Louie also was preceded in death by his brother, Oley Ray Mullins; and stepsister, Peggy Lynch (Lloyd).

Louie was an active member of Central United Methodist Church until moving to the Montgomery area where he joined the Montgomery United Methodist Church. After moving back to Charleston he changed his membership back to Central, now Canaan United Methodist Church, where he was an active member of the Methodist Men when able.

He also volunteered at CAMC General until he became disabled. Louie enjoyed playing bridge at Village Presbyterian Church through the Shepherd Center.

He graduated from Spencer High School and Morris Harvey College in 1949. He retired from GMAC, Charleston, and later retired from Merchants National Bank of Montgomery in 1989. He enjoyed working with the Charleston, Montgomery and South Charleston Lions clubs, when able.

Louie was a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in England with the Eighth Air Corps.

Surviving: his wife of 59 years, Audrey Ransom Mullins; his tchildren, Trish Volker (Tim), Larry Mullins of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Mark Mullins (Lisa) of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Christopher Mullins of Garner, N.C., Mary and Matthew Volker of Charleston, and Hannah and Seth Mullins of Lexington, Ky.; sisters, Vera and Violet Mullins of South Charleston and Eloise Richmond of Craigsville; and sister-in-law, Mary C. Mullins of Charleston.

Services were Nov. 29 at Bartlett Burdette Cox Funeral Home with the Rev. John Massey officiating. Burial was in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
