Alonzo Lawrence ‘Buck’ Bobbitt

Alonzo Lawrence “Buck” Bobbitt, 82, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 9, 2010, at CAMC — Memorial Division in Charleston.

Born Dec. 3, 1927, at Elk Ridge, he was the son of the late William C. and Grace Price Bobbitt. Three sisters, Ruth McArdle, Helen Lopez and Nancy Carello, and two brothers, Bill Bobbitt and Jimmy Bobbitt, also preceded him in death.

Buck was a retired warehouse manager for Rainbird Sprinkler Manufacturing and a former coal miner, having last worked at Winifrede.

He attended the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene and was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving: his loving wife of 61 years, Jackie Bobbitt; children, John Bill Bobbitt and wife Pam of Alta Loma, Calif., and Bonnie Alvarron and husband John of Oak Hill; brothers, Sherman Bobbitt and wife Rosie of Falls View, Raymond Bobbitt and wife Patty of Winfield and Ronald Bobbitt and wife Mary of Adena Village; sisters, Margaret Bailey of Montgomery and Midge Hartwell and husband Harold of Mankota, Minn.; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Joni and husband Jeremy, Michael and companion Taryn, Jolene and husband Matt, and Matthew and companion Lexie; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 15 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Entombment was at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Edith Maude Kauff

Edith Maude Kauff, 87, of Alta, died Jan. 15, 2010, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.

Born Feb. 20, 1922, in Elverton, Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Wallace M. and Elizabeth Helen Smithson Johnson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley John Kauff.

Mrs. Kauff was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Belva, and a homemaker.

Surviving: sons and daughter-in-law, John “Burr” and Gladys Kauff of Gauley Bridge, and Kenny Kauff of Beech Glen; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Eugene Highlander of Waynesville, Ohio, Sandra Sue and Wayne Musick of Bluefield, Dorothy and Max Harvey of Summersville, and Margie and Glenn Acker of Cross Lanes; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Jan. 17 at the Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister Mike Lanham officiating. Burial followed in the Restlawn Memory Gardens, Victor.

Dottie Lou McMillion

Dottie Lou McMillion, 64, of Oak Hill, died Jan. 3, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center.

Born June 10, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Haymond and Helen Buckner and step-daughter of Freda Buckner. Dottie also was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald McMillion Sr.; and several brothers and sisters.

Dottie was a nurse and worked at Plateau Medical Center. She later owned and operated her own personal care home and gave loving care for the disabled and those with special needs.

Dottie dedicated her entire life to spending time with family and grandchildren and helping others.

Dottie loved going to church, listening to gospel music, reading the Bible and enjoying company. She was of the Holiness faith.

Surviving: her daughter, Patricia Harrah and spouse Billy of Oak Hill; son, Donald McMillion Jr. and spouse Diana of Oak Hill; grandchildren, David Preston II of Charleston, and Lyndsey Preston, Amy Beth Harrah and Alexis Thee Kendall McMillion, all of Oak Hill; sisters, Charlotte Fleming of Florida, Diana Snyder and spouse David of Kincaid, Debbie Buckner of Oak Hill, Ella Mae Comer and spouse Charles of Mt. Hope, Carmel Campbell and spouse Roger of Belle, Gladys Sears and spouse Lester of Virginia, Mildred Joyce Edward and spouse Roy of Indiana and Mary Sue Wolfe and spouse Doug of Texas; and brothers, Haymond (Jabo) Buckner and spouse Pam of Powellton, Ray Buckner and spouse Judy of Ohio, Mark Buckner and spouse Judy of Virginia, Jimmy Withrow of Belle and Clyde Stevens of North Carolina.

Services were Jan. 8 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley, with Pastor Larry Humphrey officiating. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Charles Omar Zickafoose

Charles Omar Zickafoose, 87, of Beckwith, died Jan. 4, 2010, at Hidden Valley Nursing and Rehab Center in Oak Hill.

Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Elverton, he was the son of the late Seguine and Birdie Mae Harless Zickafoose. His wife, Helen C. Rose Zickafoose; a daughter, Rebecca Louise Nichols; seven brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Charles was a retired coal miner having worked for Peabody Coal. He was a member of the Cotton Hill Baptist Church, the UMWA and VFW and was a graduate of Gauley Bridge High School.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the Pacific Theater and in Korea and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Surviving: daughter, Patti Dickinson and husband Mac of Riverview, Fla.; sons, Mick Zickafoose and wife Lisa of Beckwith, Dave Zickafoose and wife Sharon of Lake Waccamaw, N.C., and Doug Zickafoose and wife Lora of Hurricane; grandchildren, Stephanie Neal and Stephen Dickinson of Riverview, Fla., Joshua Zickafoose of Princeton, Justin and Jared Zickafoose of Hurricane, Mike Zickafoose of Charleston, Nichole Zickafoose of Beckwith, Levi Zickafoose of Lake Waccamaw, N.C., and Chad Nichols of Page; and great- grandchildren, Zoe and Harlow Neal, Cade Dickinson, Allison Johnson and Brady Zickafoose.

In keeping with his wishes, his body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
