Harry Edgar Carson
Harry Edgar Carson, 88, of Ansted, died July 27, 2010, at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill.
Born June 12, 1922, at Montgomery, he was the son of the late Gomer
Dewey and Mattie Huey Carson. His wife, Mildred Madeline Wooldridge Carson; a sister, Betty Cox; and brothers, George Carson, Robert Carson and Gomer Carson Jr., also preceded him in death.
Mr. Carson was a member of the Turkey Creek Church of God. He retired
from the Fayette County Board of Education having worked in the
Transportation Department.
Surviving: daughter, Anna Johns of Fayetteville; son, Kenneth “Wings” Carson of Ansted; grandchildren, Samantha Johns of Kentucky, Theodore Johns of Hawaii and Andrew Johns of Fayetteville; and several nieces and great-nieces.
Services were July 30 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev. Bill Parker officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill. The family requests memorial donations be made in memory of Mr. Carson to Quota International of the Plateau Area, PO Box 1020, Oak Hill WV 25901 to assist with their hearing-impaired scholarship.

Juanita J. Gibson
Juanita J. Gibson, 86, died July 12, 2010, at the Morgantown (Ind.) Health Care Inn.
Born Jan. 10, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Peggy Jenkins of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Five years after her birth, they moved to Atlanta, Ga., where Juanita attended public schools and Atlanta University.
During World War II she was employed as an accountant by the Fourth Service Command of the U.S. military. She was married Jan. 13, 1946, to Robert L. Gibson and they moved to Morgantown, where he was employed as a high school teacher. She secured employment as a cost accountant at the Hayden Chemical Company.
In 1951 they moved to Montgomery when her husband accepted a position at West Virginia Institute of Technology. Dr. Gibson was director of guidance and a professor at WV Tech. For a brief period of time Mrs. Gibson worked for DuPont Chemical Company in their accounting department prior to the birth of their first child, Katherene Louise. Three years later, their son, Paul Lewis, was born.
She then moved with her family to Toledo, Ohio, where her husband was employed by the University of Toledo. In Toledo, their third child, Nancy Lee, was born. In 1965, her husband accepted a position at Indiana University and the family moved to Bloomington.
Juanita enjoyed duplicate bridge and competed in tournaments in such places as Bermuda, Hawaii and Mexico, winning her Life’s Masters Award in 1992. As a homemaker she enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens and was also an avid bird watcher.
Surviving: her husband, Robert; children, Katherene Louise Gibson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Paul Lewis Gibson (Sharon) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Nancy Lee Wallace (Joseph) of Spencer, Ind.; grandchildren, Emma Fynewever, Hanna Wagner, Ashley Stewart, and Chandler Gibson; and great-grandchildren, Owen Fynewever and Miles Fynewever.
Private funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Joe Emerson at the Day Funeral Home Chapel in Bloomington with burial at Clear Creek Cemetery on July 15.

Jackey Ray ‘Jack’ O’Dell
Jackey Ray “Jack” O’Dell, 61, of Deepwater, died July 30, 2010, at Montgomery General Hospital.
Born June 4, 1949, in Bentree, he was the son of the late Clayton Lee and Ruby Alma Morris O’Dell. He also was preceded in death by his brothers, Clayton Don, Robert E. and John G. O’Dell; and his sister, Judith Jenson.
Mr. O’Dell was a self-employed construction worker and an Army veteran.
Surviving: his son, Christopher Lee O’Dell; brother, Bill O’Dell of Mt. Lookout; sisters, Peggy Bailey of Cocoa, Fla., Virginia Hogg of Titusville, Fla., and Kathryn Louise Hill of Deepwater; and all of his nieces and nephews.
Graveside services was Aug. 6 at Montgomery Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, London, with Minister Charles Blankenship officiating. Burial followed immediately after the service.

Chubetta Louise Pritt
Chubetta Louise Pritt, 46, of Alta, died July 29, 2010, at home.
Born Dec. 5, 1963, in Charlton Heights, she was the daughter of the late Robert Shannon Foster Sr. and Charlotte May Pritt Foster.
She was a nurse’s aide/CNA for Golden Living Center and was a Baptist by faith.
Surviving: her husband, Charles “Chuck” Pritt of Alta; son, Charles Gilbert “Gib” Pritt of Alta; brothers, Robert S. (Condeda) Foster of Belva and Tim (Mary) Foster of Kanawha Falls; and several special nieces, nephew, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service was Aug. 6 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, with Minister Jadie Morris officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery, Bickmore.

Kathleen Margaret Riddle
Kathleen Margaret Riddle, 81, of Kimberly, died Aug. 3, 2010.
Born April 27, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Virgie Abshire Young. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Ann.
Surviving: her husband of 61 years, John Henry Riddle; children, Shirley Belcher of Smithers, Brenda Pritt and her husband, Kenneth, of Mebane, N.C., Jerry Riddle of Montgomery, Terry Riddle of Montgomery, Jacqueline Riddle of Mebane, N.C., and John Henry Riddle II and his wife, Beverly, of Powellton; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Service was Aug. 6 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Ron Eagle officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow.

Private 1st Class David Michael Smith
Private First Class David Michael Smith, 26, of El Cajon, Calif., died July 25, 2010, in El Cajon, from injuries received in an accident.
Born Oct. 29, 1983, at Hillsdale, Mich., he was the son of Brenda Elaine Dent of Oak Hill, and Rodney Lynn Smith of Cocoa Beach, Fla. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emogene Overstreet, William Fredrick Dent and Darrell and Arlene Smith.
David was a lay chaplain and was active in the Iglesia Palabra Viva church in Chula Vista, Calif., where he coordinated Bible studies.
He was a U.S. Army reservist who had recently received activation orders and was preparing for training before being sent to Iraq.
Surviving, in addition to his parents: brothers, Rodney Smith II of El Cajon, and Brandon Dent of Oak Hill; sister, Sarah Smith of Fayetteville; aunts and uncles, Wayne Dent of Fayetteville, Barbara Pritt and husband Mike of Gauley Bridge, Sandra Dent of Oak Hill, Kenny Dent of Oak Hill, Glen Dent and wife Regina of Indiana, Keith Dent and wife Dianna of Indiana, Rhonda Francis of Michigan and Pamela Hill of Fayetteville; special friend, Becca, and her son, Desmond; stepgrandfather, James Overstreet of Oak Hill; stepgrandmother, Brenda Dent of Fayetteville; nieces, Emily Smith; nephew, Elijah Cortez; and numerous other family members and friends.
Services were Aug. 9 at the Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jerry Bush officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill, with full military honors.

Lucille Frances Truman, 86, of Gauley Bridge, died July 27, 2010, at Hidden Valley Center, Oak Hill.
Born Nov. 23, 1923, in Shrewsbury, she was the daughter of the late Ira Francis Higginbotham and Ollie Mae Stanley Higginbotham. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Truman; son, Russell Jeffery Truman; sisters, Ada, Margaret M. Higginbotham, Rhoda E. Persinger, and Dora Whitley; and brothers, Ira L., Albert C., Orville “Bill” and Robert F. Higginbotham.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving: her sisters, Helen (Jerry) Groah of Mims, Fla., and Nora Higginbotham of McConnelsville, Ohio; grandchildren, Glenda, Gregory Michael, Charles John, Rachel Lee and Natasha Ann; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services, followed by burial, were Aug. 4 at Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, Glasgow.
