Dora H. Clonch
Dora H. Clonch, 95, of Smithers, died Oct. 24, 2005, in Franklin Regional Medical Center, Louisburg, N.C., after a short illness.
Born Jan. 3, 1910, in Pine Knob, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Dora Webb Hendrix. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, James Walker; second husband, Arnold Clonch; son, Harford Walker; and grandsons, Robert “Buddy” Tackett, Scott Edwards and Jerry Walker.
Mrs. Clonch was a homemaker and a member of Campbell Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving: sons, James Kenneth Walker of Fayetteville, N.C., William Douglas Walker of Mount Hope, and Jeffery “J.D.” Walker of Smithers; daughters, Shirley Rogers of Cleveland, Ohio, Phyllis Surratt of Brunswick, Ohio, Carolyn Walker of Louisburg, N.C., Ruth Ellen O’Dell of Worthington, Ohio, and Margaret Tackett of Smithers; stepsons, John Steven Clonch of South Charleston and David Clonch of Dublin, Va.; stepdaughters, Patricia Manley of Mount Carbon, Judith Conley of Drennen and Lona Dempsey of Shady Spring; 26 grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 20 stepgreat-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Virginia Carroll of Smithers.
Funeral service was Oct. 28 at B.C. Hooper, Bostic & Layne Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. Chester Bird and the Rev. Wallace York officiating. Burial was in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
Delmar Green
Delmar Green of Ronda died Oct. 29, 2005, after a long, hard fight with cancer, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
He was the son of the late Lewis and Minnie Scott Green, and also was preceded in death by his sister, Roslee Short; and a brother, Jay Green.
Mr. Green served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Korean War veteran. While serving his country, he was awarded a Korean service medal, a United Nations service medal, a National Defense service medal and a Korean Presidential unit citation.
Surviving: daughters, Juanita Creathers of Diamond, Dorothy Gollihugh of Dawes, Yvonna Hanshaw of Chelyan, Judy Surber of Grafton, Ohio; special sister and caregiver, Brenda Green of Ronda; brother, Dean Green of Winifred; 17 nephews and 10 nieces; and a host of family and special friends.
A memorial graveside service, with arrangements by O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 at Mount Hope Cemetery on Dawes Mountain. Burial will be in the cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8366, Gauley Bridge.

Cassandra Jean Kessler
Cassandra Jean Kessler, 21-day-old daughter of Justin Carl and Mary Beth Honaker Kessler of Toccoa, Ga., died Oct. 23, 2005, at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
She was born Oct. 2, 2005, at Toccoa.
She was preceded in death by a paternal great-grandfather, Guy Kincaid, and maternal great-grandfathers, Creed Evans Bradshaw and Charles Honaker.
Surviving, in addition to her parents: paternal grandparents, John C. Kessler of Ramsey and Janet Payne of Jodie; maternal grandparents, William E. Honaker of Eccles and Billie Jean Honaker of Beckley; paternal great-grandparents, Jean Kincaid of Victor and John L. and Wanda Kessler of Hico; maternal great-grandmothers, Mary Bradshaw of Shady Spring and Addie Honaker of Eccles; aunt, Buffy Slate and husband, Okey Jr., of Beckley; and uncles, Jerod Kessler of Hico, Joshua Kessler of Jodie and “Boo” Kessler of Jodie.
Service, with arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, was Oct. 28 at Mount Hope First Church of God with the Rev. Joe Shaffer and the Rev. Ronnie Stapleton officiating. Burial was at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Oak Hill.

James Nelson Lucas
James Nelson “Pat” Lucas, 88, a lifelong resident of Vaughan, died Oct. 23, 2005, after a brave battle with cancer.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Eliza Lucas; a brother, William Lucas; sisters, Clarice, Velma and Kay; and a grandson, Emanuel Ellis.
Mr. Lucas was a member of Vaughan Baptist Church and retired from Union Carbide Metals Division, Alloy. He enjoyed his family, visits from family and friends, his constant canine companions and painting of folk art.
Surviving: his loving wife of 57 years, Frances Fagan Lucas; children and their spouses, Roxanna and Ken Ellis of McMurray, Pa., Deborah and Rick Cottrell of Petersburg, Va., and Timothy and Veronica Lucas of Wetumpka, Ala.; grandsons, Jim, Dan and John Ellis, Joshua, Nathan and Joel Cottrell and Austin Lucas; great-grandsons, Liam, Jake and Lucas; and sisters, Tressie Jones of Enon, Artha Bell of Summersville, and Dora Swann of Murray, Ky.
Funeral services were Oct. 26 at the Pennington Funeral Home Chapel, Gauley Bridge, with the Rev. Delmer Sizemore and the Rev. Samuel Underwood conducting the service.

Marian McCullough, 56, of Boomer, died Oct. 22, 2005, in Natchez, Miss., while on deployment with FEMA.

Kathleen Romine
Kathleen Romine, 90, died Oct. 30, 2005, in Columbus, Ohio.
Born in Winifrede, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Eller Keffer Harless. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Romine; sisters, Edith Counts, Pauline Holstein and Maxine Murdock; brothers, Ernest, Frank, Chalmer and Leitch Harless; and a granddaughter, Kathleen Ann McCaulley.
Mrs. Romine was a member of Maple Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving: daughters, Janet (Louis) Totani, Judith (Robert) Hartman and Angela (Allen) Jacobson; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Nov. 3, at the chapel of Montgomery Memorial Park, London. A funeral service will immediately follow, with arrangements completed by B.C. Hooper, Bostic & Layne Funeral Home, Montgomery.

Olen A. Sizemore
Olen A. Sizemore, 77, of Gauley Bridge, died Oct. 23, 2005, at Montgomery General Hospital after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 10, 1928, at Bentree, he was the son of the late George A. and Zella Nichols Sizemore. Also preceding him in death were his wife, Beryl Ruth Kimber Sizemore; and sister, Alice Clonch.
Mr. Sizemore was a former resident of Bentree, a retired self-employed carpenter, a U.S. Army veteran, and attended the Christian Church of Lizemore.
Surviving: his sons, Paul Sizemore of Deepwater and David Olen Sizemore of Clay; and granddaughter, Kimberly Jo Sizemore.
Graveside service, with arrangements by Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge, was Oct. 26 at Sunset Cemetery, Fola, with Rev. Jadie Morris officiating.
Helen Rose Skaggs
Helen Rose Skaggs, 78, of Victor, died Oct. 25, 2005, at Plateau Medical Center following a long illness.
Born Dec. 7. 1926, at Jodie, she was the daughter of the late Gaymond Golden and Norah Virginia Ewing Preast. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Basil L. Skaggs, to whom she had been married for over 50 years, on May 10, 2001.
Surviving: her brothers, William Edward Preast and Hazel of Goldsboro, N.C., Ralph Damon Preast and Frances of Russellville and Gaymond G. Preast and Judy of Cheney, Wash.; a sister, Betty Jean Preast Hahn and Joe of Bath, Maine, and Largo, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Byrl Skaggs of Fredricksburg, Va.
Graveside service, with arrangements by Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, was Oct. 29 at The Chapel of Rest Mausoleum, Victor, with Pastor Greg Auxier officiating. Entombment followed in the mausoleum.
Anice Lois Stewart
Anice Lois Gay Stewart died peacefully at home Oct. 28, 2005, with her loving and devoted family by her side.
Born Jan. 18, 1927, she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha C. Arthur. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Sam B. Stewart; daughter, Karen Lynn Stewart Kelly; great-granddaughter, Katheryn L. Stewart; great-grandson, William Stewart; brothers, John W. Arthur Jr., and Buck Gay; and sisters, Billie Glenn and Nina Boyd. She was adopted and raised from early childhood by her late grandmother, Fannie Adkins Gay.
Anice graduated from West Virginia State College with a special reading degree and went on to teach reading at Dupont Junior High and Cedar Grove Community School.
She then had a career at Montgomery General Hospital, becoming a unit secretary, and retired from there in 1982.
Mrs. Stewart was a breast cancer survivor of 41 years, being diagnosed for the first time in January 1964 and given six months to live. Then again in January 2002, being diagnosed in the second breast. She fought a courageous battle each time.
Surviving: her loving cat, Bubby; sons and daughters-in-law, William B. “Buddy” and Nancy of Hugheston, Larry W. and Ethel of Elkhart, Ind., and Sammy L. and Rhonda of Elkview; daughter and son-in-law, Anita “Susie” and Billy Gould of Hugheston; sisters, Mayme Hunt of Chesapeake, and Dena Marciano of Pitman, N.J.; brother, Richard C. Gay Sr. of Hugheston; best friends, Wanda Thompson of Tampa, Fla., Louise Queen of Falls View, and Barb Pennington of Hugheston; grandchildren, Lynette, Allan, Angie, Timmy, Lisa, Kimberly, Michelle, Micky, Samantha, Bill, and Hayley; great-grandchildren, Gerald, Kayla, Ashley, Tori, Charissa, Brett, Kyle, Marissa, Hailey, Damon, Nicola, Zane, and Gaven; great-great-grandson, Gerald Jr.; special nieces, Sis Gay and BoBo; and several nieces and nephews.
Service was Oct. 31 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. Gary Tucker officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow.
Marie E. Treadway
Marie E. Treadway died Oct. 25, 2005, at Raleigh General Hospital Emergency Room.
She was the daughter of the late Charles Wilburn and Bessie Ethel Wilburn Pannell, and the stepdaughter of the late Shirley Cecil “Pete” Pannell. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Walker J. Treadway; and brothers, Charles MacRae and Houston Gordon Wilburn.
Mrs. Treadway was a 1936 graduate of East Bank High School. She worked with the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., the Department of Human Services, and later joined the staff at Beckley VA Medical Center when it opened in 1949. There she became the supervisor of the ward secretaries and the secretary to the administrator until her stroke in 1967 which caused her to take an early retirement.
She was a devout Christian and she and her husband were members of Calloway Heights Missionary Baptist Church since 1952. She held office in the circles of the church and was a choir member for several years, until the time she could no longer take part in the activities.
She married Howard Cecil Fout on Dec. 26, 1936, and their union produced one daughter, Phyllis Jean, who is married to Roy Verdine, with whom she made her home the last days of her life here on earth.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 50 years and was currently a member of Alpha Master Chapter. She was a member of the American Association of Medical Records Librarians.
Also surviving: grandchildren, Phillip LeeRoy (Trudy), William Joseph (Arlene), Shirley Jeanelle “Jeannie” (Don Riffe Jr.), Susan Reanelle (Tony Sanderson) and Thomas Scott (Christina); 19 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Larry Houston Wilburn and wife, Sue, of Florida.
Service, with arrangements by High Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, Oak Hill, was Oct. 28 at the chape with Pastor Bill Parker officiating. Entombment followed in High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Oak Hill.

Mildred Bowles
Mildred Hamlin Bowles, 97, of Boomer, died Feb. 26, 2012.
