Cindy Lee Deering
Cindy Lee Deering, 52, of Swiss, died May 18, 2009, at CAMC General.
Born April 19, 1957, in Havre, Mont., she was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ellen Howard Sargent.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Swiss Baptist Church, and vice president of the Gauneka Ruritan Club.
Surviving: husband, Michael Glen Deering of Swiss; sons, Harley Michael Derring of Swiss, and Michael O’Neil of Montana; daughter, Mary Derring of Swiss; brother, Robert Sargent of Spokane, Wash.; and sisters, Destiny Cameron of Mountlooking Glass, Mont., Sheila Sargent of Montana, Sandy Sargent of Colby, Kan., and Sharon Sargent of Wisconsin.
Funeral services were May 24 at the Swiss Baptist Church with Ministers Jeremy Jones and Kenny Hayes officiating. Burial followed in the West Virginia Memorial Gardens, Calvin.

Jillian DiVita
Jillian Leigh DiVita, 23, of Shrewsbury, died May 23, 2009.
Born May 15, 1986, in Charleston, she was the daughter of Jimmy and Penny DiVita of Shrewsbury. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, June Vandall and Betty DiVita.
Jill was a student at the University of Charleston majoring in biology with plans of attending medical school. She was a 2004 honor graduate of Riverside High School and a member of the Belle Church of the Nazarene.
Jill’s kind heart and warm spirit lives on in all who knew her. She had a special closeness with her grandfather, Preston Vandall, and spent hours caring for him.
Surviving, in addition to her parents: her sisters, Jennifer DiVita of Charleston and Jordan DiVita of Shrewsbury; her boyfriend, Ben Sampson; her grandparents, Raymond Preston Vandall and Frances and Wanda Divita; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. today (May 27) at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Pastor Mark Green officiating. Entombment will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow.

Ruby Petry
Ruby Opal Petry, 86, of Cannelton, died May 19, 2009.
Mrs. Petry was the widow of the late Homer Jay Petry Sr., and the daughter of the late Haymond and Anna Blankenship Boggs. She also was preceded in death by sisters, Macil Boggs and Daisy Frye, and a brother, Leonard Boggs.
Surviving: sons, Homer Jay Petry Jr. and wife Donna of Cannelton, and Gene Petry and Steve Shamblin of Charleston; grandchildren, Dodi and John Bowen, and Craig and Andrea Petry; great-grandchildren, Jared, Samantha, and Amanda Bowen, and Jacob and Eli Petry; a brother, Bobby Boggs and wife Jennie of Taylor, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Karen Boggs of Severn, Md.; brother-in-law, Junior and Dorothy Petry of Cannelton; nieces, Kara (Rob) McWilliams, Michelle Boggs, and Sharon Benda; nephew, Lennie Boggs; grandnieces, Kaitlin and Sarah McWilliams; and grandnephew, Kyle McWilliams.
A private graveside service was held at Montgomery Memorial Park, London, on May 21.

Nellie Isabelle Poff
Nellie Isabelle Poff, 90, of Hinesville, Ga., died May 20, 2009 at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Poff was a native of West Virginia and has lived alone in Ludowici for the past 6 years. She was a homemaker who lived her life through her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Poff was of the Methodist faith and was a life long resident of Glen Ferris until health problems took her to Georgia in 2002, where she spent some of the best years of her life surrounded by her family and new friends.
She was preceded in death by her late husband, William J. Poff, who died in 1970, and her son, William Nile Poff, who died in 1983.
Surviving: daughters, Nordene (Charles) White of Hinesville, Sharon (Leon) Kennedy of Columbus, Ga., Marjorie (Gilmer) Dorsey of Cottageville; brother, Warren Clark of Meridian, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 13 great great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was May 25 at Pennington Funeral Home, Gauley Bridge. Burial followed in Montgomery Memorial Park in London.

Cinda Proctor
Cinda Ann Proctor, 67, of Hansford, died May 21, 2009, at home.
Born Feb. 11, 1942, at Kayford, she was the daughter of the late William and Vonda Gibson Castle. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Venna Mae Tuck.
Mrs. Proctor was a former employee of KMart in Kanawha City and was also a former employee of Billo’s in Pratt.
Surviving: husband, David C. Proctor; son, Richard Lee Butcher Jr. of Hansford; brother, William Edgar Castle of Espyville, Pa.; sisters, Brenda Lucas of Chelyan and Renda Phelps of East Sparta, Ohio; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Service was May 23 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Fr. Stan Holmes officiating. Burial followed in Stanley Cemetery on Kayford Mountain of Cabin Creek.

Edith Sayre
Edith Leigh Sayre, 41, of Mt. Carbon, died May 17, 2009, at home.
Born Aug. 28, 1967, in Alexandria, Va., she was the daughter of Robert Sturgill of Kimberly and the late Freda Davis Sturgill.
She was a former LPN with 20 years of service.
Surviving: husband, Franklin J. “Bo” Sayre; children, Christina Sturgill, Jessie Sayre, Michael Sayre and Dillon Sayre, all of Mt. Carbon; sisters, Angie Sturgill and Donna Sturgill, both of Deepwater; and brother, Robert Sturgill of Deepwater.
Service was May 20 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Phyllis Bowling officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow.
