Michael Wayne Adkins
Michael Wayne Adkins, 38, of Ingram Branch, died May 28, 2009, at his home.
Born Oct. 22, 1970, at Montgomery, he was the son of Carlos Adkins Sr. of Ingram Branch, and the late Patricia Taylor and stepson of Laura Adkins.
He was a correctional officer for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Beaver.
Mr. Adkins was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Oak Hill.
He was a former employee of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Michael had been accepted for admission to study at the Appalachian Bible Institute in Bradley.
Surviving, in addition to his father and step-mother: a daughter, Haleigh B. Adkins of Fayetteville; brother, Carlos Adkins Jr. and wife Heather of Fayetteville; sister, Tina Maynor and husband Evan of Oak Hill; step-sisters, Melissa Perdue and husband Anthony of Mount Hope, Autumn Ballard and husband Braxon of Fayetteville, Deean Dingler of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Denece Stanton of Charleston; and step-brothers, Derek Stanton of North Carolina and Dell Stanton of Fredericksburg, Va.
Services were June 1 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Oak Hill with Pastor David Richardson officiating. Burial was at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, with military graveside rites by VFW Post #3110 of Oak Hill.

Eugene ‘Gino’ Brandon
Eugene S. “Gino” Brandon, 79, of Montgomery, died May 23, 2009.
Born April 1, 1930, in Boomer, he was the son of the late James and Mattie Pendleton Brandon. He also was preceded in death by his sister, Mamie Brandon.
Mr. Brandon was retired from D&D; Ford in Smithers and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea.
He was a graduate of Simmons High School and a member of Longacre First Baptist Church. He loved WVU and WVU Tech football.
Surviving: nieces, Janet Grimes of Detroit, Jacqueline Brandon, Deborah Taylor and Brenda Brandon, all of Charleston, and Anita Phifer of Dunbar; nephews, Arthur Brandon of San Marcos, Calif., and Sgt. Delbert Brandon of Fayetteville, N.C.; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Service was May 30 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with the Rev. William Kinney officiating. Burial followed in Spring Hill Cemetery, Charleston.

Ofelia G. Cannon
Ofelia G. Cannon, 79, of Oak Hill, formerly of Andalusia, Ala., died at home on May 6, 2009, in Oak Hill.
Born Sept. 23, 1929, in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, she was preceded in death by her husband, Euel Pete Cannon.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Oak Hill.
Surviving: a brother and sister, Antonio Garcia Saucedo and Irma Garcia Saucedo of Saltillo, Mexico; stepchildren, Linda Tucker, Eddie Cannon, and Pete Cannon of Andalusia, Ala.; and a niece, Teresa Akerberg of Hico.
Burial will be at a later date in Andalusia, Ala.

Donna Sue Christensen
Donna Sue Christensen, 63, of Gardner, Ill., died May 12, 2009, at Morris Hospital in Morris, Ill.
Born May 3, 1946, in Paint Creek, she was the daughter of the late Joe Alfred and Tinis Margaret (nee Rinehart) Hall. She also was preceded in death by brother, Wayne Hall, and two nephews.
Surviving: her husband, Rodger M. Christensen of Gardner; sons, Robert and Richard Christensen, both of Gardner; daughter, Christina (Greg) Eddington of Golconda, Ill.; grandchildren, Katelyn, Allyson, and Adriene Sue Eddington; brothers, Blaine (Shirley) Tyree of Scarbro, Bill (Jean) Tyree of Austin Town, Ohio, and Nick (Joyce) Hall, and Joey (Margaret) Hall, all of Scarbro; sisters, Wanda Thompson of Scarbro, Rosemary Waldron of Joliet, Ill., and Jane Bell of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 26 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were May 18 at the Reddick United Methodist Church in Reddick, Ill., with Pastor Dennis Brooks officiating. Interment was in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.

Sandy Coiner
Sandy Coiner, 68, of Ravenswood, died May 29, 2009, at Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood.
Born Feb. 6, 1941, she was the daughter of Robert and Dorothy “Dot” Dorsey McCommack of Cannelton.
Sandy and her husband Jack owned and operated Jack’s Sport Center in Ravenswood for 30 plus years.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood. She loved to shop and spend time with her family.

Chad Allen Duffield, 28, of Lizemore, died May 27, 2009.
Born July 10, 1980, in Montgomery, he was the stepson of Leslie Davis and the son of Tammy Davis of Gauley Bridge. He was the son of Robin (Bob) White of Dutch Ridge.
Surviving: his daughter, Kyra Elaine Duffied of Boomer; brothers, Nicholas Davis of Gauley Bridge and Teddy Nicholson of Dutch Ridge; his sister, Cassandra Foster of Lizemore; and grandparents, Thurman and Macil Bird of Lizemore, and Pauline Taylor of Bentree.

Hazel Elkins
Hazel Elkins, 95, of Swiss, died May 27, 2009, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.
Born Dec. 7, 1913, in Nicholas County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Ellen Keith. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Elkins; son, Carl Elkins; and grandsons, Stevie Elkins, Jessie Brooks Stewart and Martin Stewart.
Mrs. Elkins was a homemaker and a member of Vaughan Baptist Church.
Surviving: her children, Wanda Stewart of Swiss, Howard Elkins of Salisbury, N.C., Elmer Elkins of Gilboa, Ronald Elkins of Roaming Shores, Ohio, Hoye Elkins of Craigsville, Barbara Holaroid of Inverness, Fla., and Nadine Preast of Locust, N.C.; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Stanley Eugene Hoyle
Stanley Eugene Hoyle, 52, died May 26, 2009, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley.
Born July 9, 1956, at Rutherfordton, N.C., he was the son of Elizabeth Allen Hoyle of Forest City, N.C., and the late Oliver Hoyle.
Mr. Hoyle was a disabled carpenter.
Surviving: his wife, Norma Montgomery Hoyle; son, Stanley D. Hoyle of Robson, daughter, Amanda Nichole Hoyle of Robson; and stepson, Charles Allen Maynor.
Mr. Hoyle was cremated. There will be no visitation or service.

Glenn Alan Keys
Glenn Alan Keys, 63, of Radford, Va., died May 18, 2009, at his home in Radford.
Born in Montgomery, he was the son of Glenn Snavely and Estelle Kessler Keys.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Christopher Keys; and a sister, Brenda Keys Franchoise.
Mr. Keys was a control systems engineer at GE for eight years and RAAP for over 32 years. He was a member of the Radford Jaycees, where he held many offices.
He was a graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology and served in the United States Army Reserves.
Surviving: his wife, Charlene C. Keys; sons, Christopher Keys of Radford and Kerry Keys of Fort Sill, Okla.; and a brother, Stacy Keys of Princeton.
Funeral service was May 22 at the Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tammy Wright and the Rev. Ric Wright officiating. Interment followed in the Sunrise Burial Park in Radford.

Roy Douglas Middleton
Roy Douglas Middleton, 62, of Kimberly, formerly of Gastonia, N.C., died May 27, 2009.
Born Jan. 30, 1947, in Montgomery, he was the son of Marlin Middleton Sr. of Kimberly and the late June Viola Meredith.
Mr. Middleton was a retired tax assessor from Gastonia County, N.C., and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.
He was a 1969 graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology and was a 1975 graduate, earning his master’s degree, at the University of South Carolina.
He loved gardening, and surrounding himself with his family and faithful companion, his dog “Lucky.”
Surviving: father, Marlin Middleton Sr. of Kimberly; sisters, Lou Ann Stanley of Kimberly, Melina McNabb of Montgomery and Marlene Middleton of Victor; brothers, Ronnie Meredith, George Middleton and Freddy Middleton, all of Mt. Carbon; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service was May 30 at Kimberly Church of God with Rev. Bill Smith officiating.

Edward Allen ‘Ed’ Poff
Edward Allen “Ed” Poff, 90, of Fayetteville, died May 24, 2009, at home.
Born Feb. 14, 1919, at Boomer, he was the son of the late William Edward and Zella Ann McKinney Poff. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Estel Poff; and sisters, Edith Ammons, Rae Underwood, Violet Bartustic and Edith Bess.
Mr. Poff was a member of the Bell Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church, Dixie.
He was a mix unloader at Union Carbide, Alloy, and retired in 1972.
Surviving: his wife of 63 years, Nadine M. Poff of Fayetteville; sons, Allen R. Poff of Gauley Bridge and Joseph D. Poff of Fayetteville; sister, Nancy Jeffries of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Edward Allen Poff II, Rachelle L. Legg, Jennifer Ishman, Tony Hoot and Brenda Hoot; and seven great-grandchildren.

Steven F. Rose
Steven F. Rose, 61, of Ansted, died May 21, 2009, following a short illness.
Born Sept. 17, 1947, in Winona, he was a son of the late Albert and Beufah Smith Rose.
Mr. Rose was of the Holiness faith, preaching God’s Word everywhere he could.
He was an auto mechanic.
Surviving: his wife, Sandra Settle Rose of Ansted; children, Jeanette White, Stephanie Singletary and Steven F. Rose II of Dublin, Ga.; the children’s mother, Phyliss of Dublin; sisters, Diana Bill of Handley, and Roberta Brewer of Ansted; brothers, Floyd E. Rose of Ansted, Robert R. Rose of Fayetteville, and Roger L. Rose of Ansted; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were May 24 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel in Ansted, with Pastor Ronnie Persinger officiating. Burial was May 26.

Lance Marshall Steele
Lance Marshall Steele, 67, of Minden, died May 23, 2009, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a long illness.
Born July 12, 1941, at Rich Creek, he was a son of the late William and Myrtle Peck Steele.
Lance was a state firefighter and a member of Believers Under Grace of Oak Hill.
Surviving: his wife, Tammy Steele of Ansted; a daughter, Jane Holcomb of Ansted; sons, William Steele, Daniel Steele and Bruce Steele, all of Ansted, Aaron Dabler and Brian Dabler, both of Oak Hill, and John Justice and Michael Dabler, both of Ansted; a sister, Emogene Steele of Ansted; and 16 grandchildren.
