Bobbie F. Bass

Bobbie F. Bass, 78, of Smithers, died June 10, 2009, at home.

Born Sept. 4, 1930, at Cabin Creek, he was the son of the late William and Marvel Stone Bass. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bass; his brother, Kenneth Bass; and a sister, Francis Burnside.

Mr. Bass was an Army veteran of the Korean War and he was retired from Central Appalachian Coal Company. He was a former employee of Edelman Contruction Company of Smithers.

Bobbie was a member of the Oakland Church of God in Smithers where he was the youth leader in the 1970s. He coached the Hawks and Marathon ball teams for the UKV league. He loved his roses, wood working and sharing his baking.

Surviving: daughter, Kathy Mobley and her husband, Jerry, of Woodbridge, Va., and Lea Ann Bass and Greg of Mt. Carbon; son, Mark Bass of Fayetteville; granddaughter, Elizabeth Mobley Stevens; brothers, Billy Bass of Powellton, Gene Bass and his wife, Donna, of LaPlata, Md., Troy Bass and his wife, Bessie, of Montgomery, and Jimmy Bass and his wife, Ruth, of Kimberly; sister, Phyllis Settle of Elkview; and a very special aunt, Elizabeth “Sis” Corbin of Cabin Creek.

Service was June 13 at Oakland Church of God, Smithers, with the Rev. Robert Vanfossen officiating. Burial followed in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow, with military honors provided by the Ansted Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

Dennis Edward Goard Sr.

Dennis Edward Goard Sr., 54, of Radcliff, Ky., formerly of Harlem Heights, died June 11, 2009, at Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Ky.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Winnie Mae Goard, and brother, Samuel Batey.

Mr. Goard was retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service.

His memberships include Sign Of The Dove Church, Radcliff, Ky.; VFW Post #10281, Vine Grove, Ky.; Iron Soldiers Motorcycle Club, Radcliff, Ky.; and he had worked for Civil Service, Fort Knox, Ky.

Surviving: his loving wife, Twanda Delores Goard of Radcliff, Ky.; children, Dennis Edward Goard Jr. of Texas, Ebony LaFrances Goard of Texas, D’Ambrocio Andre Hughes Goard of Radcliff, Ky., and Tameika LaShon Goard of Radcliff, Ky.; 6 grandchildren; sister, Rosa Grooms of Oak Hill; brother, James Goard of Ohio; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, at the Sign Of The Dove Church, Radcliff, Ky., with Rev. Edward L. Palmer Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff, with military honors.

Visitation will begin after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Pam Ramsey

Pam Ramsey, 58, of Rock Camp, Fayette County, died June 9, 2009, in CAMC Memorial Hospital, Charleston.

Born June 22, 1950, in Smithers, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Delores Fauber.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving: her husband, Joe Ramsey; sons, Rusty Ramsey and companion Holli of Bell Creek and Freddy Ramsey and wife Cathy of Indore; several brothers and sisters; and grandchildren, Marissa, Mason, Joseph, Hayley, Janet and Axle.

Graveside service was June 12 in Ramsey Cemetery, Dixie, with the Rev. Jadie Morris officiating.

Wandalean K. Frye Reagan

Wandalean K. Frye Reagan, 86, of Parksville, Md., formerly of Hugheston, Clarksburg, and Charleston, died on June 2, 2009, at Oak Crest Retirement Community in Parkville, MD.

Born Sept. 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John and Tressie Hinkle Frye. She also was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Gorman W. Reagan.

During her school years, she attended Hugheston Elementary, Cedar Grove Junior High, and graduated from East Bank High School and the Charleston School of Commerce.

In Hugheston, she attended the Church of God and the Community Church. At the Church of God, she was the youth leader. In Charleston, she was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

In Baltimore, she attended the First Church of God for 57 years. She also occasionally attended the Baltimore Parkville Church of the Nazarene.

Wandalean worked at several companies in West Virginia and Maryland during her lifetime: Imperial Ice Cream, Atlas Candy Company, Mutual of Omaha, Martin Marietta, CN Robinson, Canterbury Shop, substituted in Baltimore County Schools, and the St. Joseph Residence that is attached to the House of God Shepherd.

Surviving: her daughter, Barbara J. Phillips and her husband, Edward E. Phillips Jr., of Baltimore; and many cousins.

Funeral service was June 6 at the First Church of God, 4801 Sipple Avenue, Baltimore, MD. Interment was at the Meadowridge Memorial Park. Arrangements by Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Inc.



Gary D. Rowe

Gary D. Rowe, 66, long time resident of Mount Carbon, died June 10, 2009, after a short illness.

He was born Jan. 18, 1943, at Mt. Carbon.

Gary was a retired coal miner of 20 years and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He was owner/operator of R&R; Automotive in Carbon for 22 years.

Surviving: his wife of 48 years, Janet L. Rowe; granddaughter, Ursula Angel; grandsons, Garren Rowe, Asa Rowe, D.J. Parness, and Matt Parness; granddaughter, Nea Rowe of Charleston; daughters, Vickie O’Quinn of Durham, N.C., and Valerie Angel of East Bank; son, Gary A. Rowe of Mount Carbon; and special grandsons, Bryson, Spencer and Britt Armentrout.

Service was June 13 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial was in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.
