Emma DeWeese

Emma Jane Northwood DeWeese, 97, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Montgomery, died June 6, 2010, in John Knox Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 7, 1913, in Trafford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Exie Northwood.  She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. DeWeese, and a son, Lt. Charles Ray DeWeese.

Mrs. DeWeese lived in Pennsylvania before moving to Montgomery in 1952.

She attended Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn., and graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in Indiana, Pa., before teaching in Trafford, Pa.

She was married to Raymond C. DeWeese and was a long-time member of Montgomery Presbyterian Church where she was an active member of the Women of the Church and sang in the choir. She was a former Girl Scout leader in Montgomery.

In 1982, Ray and Emma moved to Tampa, Fla. There she was a proud member of the University Community Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered as a Pink Lady for 10 years. She was a member of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church.

Surviving: her children and their families, Dr. William (Martha) DeWeese of Tampa, Fla., Hazel (John) Steel of Cleveland, Tenn., and Mary (Tom) Hatfield of Lake Charles, La.; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements were made by JGR Funeral Home in Tampa and interment will be at the Lake Carroll Cemetery in Tampa, Fla.

Ernest Ray Dickinson

Ernest Ray Dickinson, 63, of Oak Hill, died June 1, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

Born Sept. 17, 1946, at Mount Hope, he was the son of the late William Ray and Florence Elizabeth Perry Dickinson.

Ernie grew up at Kimberly, and went to Montgomery High School. He was a disabled coal miner and also a former employee of Long Airdox in Oak Hill. He was a proud member of Local Union 8843 and the UMWA and a former member of the White Oak Country Club.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1965 to 1969.

One of his greatest joys was taking these grandchildren to breakfast at McDonald’s or to the local golf course to play golf.

Surviving: his beloved wife of 44 years, Wanda Reese Dickinson; daughter, Brigitte A. Chandler of Beckley; son, William E. Dickinson of Oak Hill; brothers, Charles “Chuck” Dickinson of Smithers and Frank “Mac” Dickinson of Riverview, Fla.; and six wonderful grandchildren who meant the world to him, Brittany and Brandon Chandler, Austin, Kylie, Garrick and Alik Dickinson.

A memorial service was held on June 3 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill, with his good friend Pastor Rudell Bloomfield officiating.

The family suggests donations of sympathy be made in memory of Ernest Dickinson to the Rosenbaum Family House, 1 Medical Center Drive, Morgantown, WV 26508.

Rosalie Dickinson

Rosalie Dickinson, 86, formerly of Oak Hill and Mt. Carbon, died May 31, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Glasgow.

Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ethel Stanley Dickinson. She also was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy Dickinson, Bobbie Dickinson, Donald Dickinson and William Ray Dickinson; and her sister, Mary Evelyn Veazey.

Surviving: son, Bobby Pat Veazey Sr. of Falls View; brother, Frank “Pikie” T. Dickinson of Mt. Carbon; grandson, Bobby Pat Veazey Jr. and his wife, Julie, of Colorado Springs, Colo; great-granddaughters, Kathryn Renee Veazey and Courtney Ann Veazey, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; special former daughter-in-law, Sharon Ann Hall; and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance to Rosalie’s request there will be no service or visitation.

Grant Lewis

Grant Lovester Lewis (“June/G.Money”), 43, of Cockrell Hill, Texas, formerly of Montgomery, died May 30, 2010, after a horrific fire at the apartment complex where he lived.

Born Sept. 8, 1966, he was the youngest of nine children born to Grant and Rosa Lewis.

He was a 1985 graduate of East Bank High School. He enlisted in the Armed Forces after graduating and earned an honorable discharge.

He moved to Atlanta, Ga., and later returned to Montgomery before relocating to Cedar Hill, Texas, in 2005.

Surviving: daughter, Brittany Cosby of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Henry L. (Shirley) Harvey of Elkridge, William T. “Redd” (Anna) Lewis of Charleston, Larry D. (Rhonda) Lewis of Columbus, Ohio, and David L. (Lisa) Lewis of Montgomery; sisters, Rosa M. (Michael) Brown of Cedar Hill, Texas, Deloris V. Lewis of Charleston, and Leatrese K. Lewis of Cleveland, Ohio; aunt, Mary E. Watkins of Charleston; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at O’Dell Funeral Home, 1301 Fayette Pike W., Montgomery, with Elder Wayne R. Crozier officiating.

Ruth M. Mounts

Ruth M. Mounts of Rahway, N.J., and most recently of Colonie, N.Y., died May 11, 2010.

She was born and raised in Powellton, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Mounts.

She attended college in West Virginia and worked at the New Jersey shore after graduating from college. She taught in a public school in Rahway for 30 years and retired to New York State in 1991.

Ruth will be deeply missed by her family and many friends in West Virginia, New Jersey and New York. She helped raise many of her nephews and great-nephews and gave tirelessly of herself. Her love of antiques, rug hooking and baseball will live on in those who knew and loved her.

Surviving: sister, Virginia Smith-Young; niece, Elizabeth Rutherford; nephews, Richard, Ronald, Robert, and Raymond Smith, Peter, Stuart and Charles Mounts; several great-nephews and nieces and two great-great-nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
