The sixth annual Johnnie Ferri Softball Tournament will be held Aug. 2-3 at Collins Park.
Proceeds from the co-ed event will benefit the Johnnie Ferri Scholarship Fund.

Ferri was one of the driving forces behind the growth of softball in the Fayette Plateau area.
Last year’s tournament attracted 14 teams, the most in event history, said Meigs Conley, Johnnie Ferri’s daughter and one of the organizers.

The WVU Tech Golden Bear Athletic Club will stage its annual golf scramble on Thursday, July 24 at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels. The event will begin with lunch and registration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a shotgun start. An awards ceremony will be held immediately afterwards.
Registration for the scramble is $150 per person or $600 per team. The cost covers golf, cart and lunch at Glade Springs’ Cobb Course.

Pro Star Sports, in conjunction with the Oak Hill Midget Football League, will stage a youth fundamental football camp on July 26-27 at the OHMFL field on Central Avenue.
The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days, says Maurice Gravely, who will oversee the camp. Gravely, a McDowell County native, was on the practice squad for the NFL’s New England Patriots in 1987, as well as playing in the Arena League. He has remained active as a scout for teams in the NFL and the Canadian Football League.
Cost will be $60 per camper. Children ages 8 to 15 will be welcome.
