UKV stars winless in Big League regional play

By Staff Reports
The Montgomery Herald

A collection of all-stars representing the Upper Kanawha Valley Little League in a Big League regional softball competition in Florida went winless last week, but the southern swing was far from fruitless, one of the team’s coaches said.

UKV lost pool-play decisions to Florida (10-0), Virginia (11-1), Florida (12-2) and Tennessee (8-0), coach Tod Belmont said.

“We saw exactly what we need to do to get better,” Belmont said. “There was a big difference, and we know we need to (work on strengthening some areas).”

The girls enjoyed the trip, he added.

“They loved it,” said Belmont. “We really appreciate the donations from the area businesses.

“They helped out tremendously.”
