Middle school roundup
Collins raced to a 22-4 first-quarter lead Thursday and posted a 49-25 victory over visiting Valley in boys middle school basketball action.
Joseph Eckert tallied nine points for the Greyhounds (7-3). Other point-producers were: Raeshawn Breckenridge, 2; Keyshawn Payne, 4; Darius Hutchinson, 2; Steven Mitchell, 2; Henry Barron, 4; and Aaron Liddle, 2.
Demarcus Hughes scored 17 points and Javonne Staunton 13 for the Little Devils.
Valley rebounded from the Collins setback by doubling up host Fayetteville, 38-19, two nights ago. The Greyhounds raced to a 14-2 lead after one quarter and led 25-5 at intermission.
Valley (8-3) was led by Breckenridge’s 14-point effort. Others in the scoring column were: Payne, 8; Zac Warden, 4; Barron, 9; and Damaria Davis, 3.
William Dooley scored seven to lead the Pirates. Other scorers included: Jake Alton, 3; Justin Workman, 2; Joshua Long, 2; Logan Christian, 2; Caleb Bailes, 1; and Nicholas Girod, 2.
Also recently, the Nuttall boys earned a 29-24 decision over Meadow Bridge.
Collin Carte and Tristan Minor scored 11 points each for the Generals. Steven Blume added three and Ryan Dixon and Austin Burdette tacked on two each.
Logan Pomeroy led the Wildcats with 12 points. Other scorers were: Todd McClanahan, 7; Dylan Walker, 3; and Dakota Brooks, 2.
Nuttall followed that win with a slim 24-23 victory over rival Ansted on Jan. 28.
NMS coach Richard Petitt said, “The game was a hard-fought battle back and forth in its entirety.”
AMS held a 13-10 lead at halftime. According to Petitt, his squad’s defensive effort in the second half was crucial as the Generals avenged two earlier-season lopsided losses.
The Generals were led in scoring by the efforts of Collin Carte, who tossed in nine points. Other point-producers were: Austin Burdette, 7; Forrest White, 5; and Ryan Dixon, 3.
Rickie Carter tallied 12 points to power the Trailblazers. Dallas Miller added eight and Larry Cavett had three.

On the girls scene, Fayetteville split a pair of games last week. The Pirates downed Collins 37-16 on Wednesday and fell 44-16 to Summers County on Thursday.
Avina Sedlock had a triple-double to pace the Pirates (5-4) over CMS. She collected 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals. Teammate Kaitlyn Sisler contributed 11 points, five rebounds and six steals. Also, Hannah Samples had six points and a pair of assists, and Brandi Richmond scored two points.
Kaytlin Goodman scored eight to lead Collins.
Against the Bobcats, Avina Sedlock had eight points, seven rebounds and seven steals for Fayetteville.
Avert Pivont led Summers with 11 markers.
