In regular season and tournament games last week:

Pocahontas County 76, Valley 58

Class A No. 7 Pocahontas County registered 18 steals to advance past Valley 76-58 in the Class A Region 3, Section 1 girls tournament Wednesday.

Chloe Bland had a solid all-around performance with 20 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and two blocks to lead the Warriors. Heather Snead added 16 points, while Lindsay Barlow had 14 points and Shelby Snead contributed 11.

Freshman Alexis Payne netted a game-high 26 points to lead Valley. Harley Abbott chipped in eight.

“We did a good job,” said Valley coach Marshall Murray. Murray said he felt the officials made some poor calls that hurt his girls, and he added, “They (PCHS) had 19 points on free throws at halftime. They ended up fouling out my whole starting lineup.”

“It took a little bit to get the trip (to the game) out of our system,” Murray added, “but the girls played a decent game.”

Valley 36, Richwood 35

The Greyhound boys followed a 14-7 second-quarter advantage to the narrow decision over the Lumberjacks Wednesday.

Petey Foster scored 10 and Gordy Mitchell nine for Valley.

Valley 62, Greater Beckley Christian 34

Andre Wright collected 17 points, 21 rebounds and five blocked shots as the VHS boys cruised by visiting Greater Beckley Tuesday.

Petey Foster and Cameron Cochran scored 10 points each for the Greyhounds, who broke open a 13-10 game with a 27-6 second-quarter surge.

Nathan Cook led the Crusaders with 10 points.
