Charles E. Fox
Charles E. Fox, 83, of Fayetteville, died Feb. 25, 2010, at home following a short illness.
Born Dec. 31, 1926, at Edmond, he was the son of the late Howard McKinley Fox and Mayme Jane Meadows Fox. He also was preceded in death by his daughter, Charlene Gay Fox Murphy; a brother, James Patrick Fox; and a sister, Glenna Florence Lively.
Mr. Fox served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. He was a coal miner for 40 years and retired from Imperial Colliery at Burnwell. He was a member of the UMWA.
Surviving: his wife, Norma Faye Pridemore Fox of Fayetteville; daughter, Norma Jane Fox of Fayetteville; son, Roger Lee Fox of Fayetteville; granddaughter, Sally Myers of Los Angeles, Calif.; and eldest brother, Durward Fox of Edmond.
In keeping with Mr. Fox’s wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no services.

David E. Nutter
David E. Nutter, 93, of Boomer, died March 2, 2010, at Montgomery General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 25, 1916, in Boomer, he was the son of the late George Franklin and Maggie Nutter. He also was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Betty Carpenter Nutter, and brothers, James Nutter and Lester Nutter.
Mr. Nutter was retired from Union Carbide Metals Division of Alloy with 31 years of service. He was a proud Navy veteren of World War II, and a lifelong member of Boomer Baptist Church where he loved attending his Sunday school class.
Mr. Nutter was an avid Mountaineer fan and loved his state and country.
Surviving: sons, David Lee and wife Dixie of Kirkland, Wash., and Dale of Boomer; daughter, Delene McClung and husband David of Boomer; sisters, Janice Ruth Wiseman of Plant City, Fla., and Lois Crawford of Montgomery; brother, Bobby Nutter of Montgomery; sister-in-law, Ina Lee Nutter of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Rodney Nutter and wife Judy of Jacksonville, Fla., Angela Cunningham and husband John of Albemarle, N.C., Johnathan and Jamie McClung of Boomer; five great-grandchildren and several neices and nephews.
Service was March 5 at Boomer Baptist Church with the Rev. James Neeson and Mr. Nutter’s Sunday school teacher, David West, officiating. Interment followed in Montgomery Memorial Park at London.

Kenneth Edward Roop
Kenneth Edward Roop, 63, of Jodie, died March 6, 2010, at Raleigh General Hospital.
Born July 14, 1946, at Jodie, he was the son of the late Walter Gordon and Ica Laurel Carr Roop. He also was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Roger Roop; brother, Randall Roop; and sisters, Carolyn Cox and Judy Painter.
Mr. Roop was an equipment operator for Powellton Coal Company, and a member of Jodie Baptist Church. He was a member and Past Master of the Galuey Bridge Masonic Lodge #64 A.F. & A.M., and Ansted VFW Post # 7695. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Era.
He was a former fire chief of the Gauley River Volunteer Fire Department, and former member, engineer, and training officer for the Gauley Bridge Fire Department.
Surviving: his wife, Beverly L. Foster Roop of Jodie; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Jennifer Roop of Gauley Bridge; daughter, Tressie Heather Roop of Athens; and sisters and brother-in-law, Jo Ann Neil of Jodie, and Jane and Nathan Bush of Jodie.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Jodie Baptist Church. Burial with Masonic rites conducted by Masonic Lodge #64 A.F. & A.M. and military graveside rites conducted by Ansted VFW Post #7695, will be in the Rich Creek Community Cemetery, Jodie.

Donald Ray Samples
Donald Ray Samples, 79, of Kimberly, died March 6, 2010, at home.
Born July 11, 1930, in Cannelton, he was the son of the late Charles and Eva Pell Samples.
Mr. Samples was a retired miner from Cannelton Coal Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also a member of the UMWA.
He loved to play football in high school and the Army.
Surviving: wife, Phala Brown Samples; son, Donald W. Samples of Jodie; brother, Ronald Samples of Akron, Ohio; granddaughter, Jessica Preast and her husband, Donnie, of Jodie; and great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Johathon Cottrell.
Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery, with Rev. Dennis Preast officiating. Burial will follow in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens at Glasgow.
Friends may call one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
