McGinnis to seek spot on Team USA

A Valley High School baseball player has been recognized as a top baseball prospect, and he has landed the opportunity to try out for Team USA.

Arik McGinnis is one of the top 15-year-olds who will compete for a roster spot to represent the United States in Japan in October.

The tryout will be held from Aug. 11-15 at the Houston Astros’ spring training facility.

McGinnis is looking for sponsors to help cover expenses which he and his family will incur on the trip.

“I have loved the game of baseball ever since I was old enough to walk,” said McGinnis. “I have worked hard and wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my teammates, coaches, my grandpa and my dad.

“I would proudly represent my community and my teammates while I follow my dream.”

Donations can be sent to: Arik McGinnis, 115 Riggs Street, Montgomery, WV 25136. Anyone with questions can call him at 304-981-4017 or 304-395-8166.

“Any donations or contributions would be greatly appreciated,” said McGinnis, who was named a second-team All-American outfielder during his last regional tryout. “I thank everyone for their support and I promise to do my best and give 100 percent during my trip.”
