The Marston family poses for a picture with “Molly” following her adoption at the Fayette County Animal Shelter in Beckwith.

With the help of the Fayette County Animal Shelter and the New River Humane Society, strays and lost animals in Fayette County have a fighting chance at a good life.

Puppies and kittens, as well as full-grown dogs and cats, are all available for adoption, according to kennel manager Teresa McCune.

“Puppies are the most popular pets adopted, but people are encouraged to look at our cats and adult dogs.”

Shrinking budgets and rising costs of housing and caring for the animals always are a concern for the staff of the shelter and donations are always welcome, McCune says. Money, towels, dog food, kitty litter and cleaning materials are always needed. Any monetary donations should be made to New River Humane Society and sent to PO Box 955, Fayetteville WV 25840.

The shelter is located in Beckwith. From Fayetteville, take Route 16 four miles and turn left on to Fayette County Park Road; travel approximately one mile to a fork and bear left until you see the shelter on the left hand side; cross the bridge and go up the hill to check in with the staff.

For more information on bringing a new addition home to your family, or to donate to the shelter, please call 304-574-3682 or visit the shelter Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
