MONTGOMERY — BridgeValley Community and Technical College (BVCTC) and New River Community and Technical College (New River CTC) are making it easier and more affordable than ever for West Virginians to study dental hygiene.

Students can now study prerequisite courses at New River CTC, then transfer to BVCTC and have guaranteed placement in the two-year dental hygiene program. Two New River CTC students will be able to take advantage of this opportunity each year, effectively streamlining their academic pathways by eliminating duplicate courses.

BVCTC President Dr. Casey Sacks and New River CTC President Dr. Bonny Copenhaver signed the Dental Hygiene Articulation agreement on Dec. 17. The partnership will continue on an annual basis and become effective upon approval by New River CTC and BVCTC.

“We anticipate this agreement will be immediately successful for both of our colleges,” Sacks said. “New River CTC students will be able to work toward their certification in dental hygiene more efficiently, and we look forward to welcoming them onto our campus.”

“I am so pleased that New River CTC has this partnership with BVCTC. Building this bridge between the two colleges increases program access to New River CTC’s students and demonstrates that joint partnerships between neighboring institutions is beneficial to the communities we serve,” Copenhaver said.
