Wise's Legion

Wise's Legion of the 1860s, an independent battalion-level reenactment organization in West Virginia, portrays the Civil War soldiers and civilians form western Virginia and West Virginia from 1861-1865. The Wise Legion will offer Unreconstructed Rebels at Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park May 22-24.

Carnifex Ferry Battlefield State Park will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War during an “Unreconstructed Rebels” event May 22-24.

The Wise’s Legion, an authentic Civil War Living History Organization, will present public demonstrations to mark the anniversary of the disbandment of several West Virginia Confederate Units of McCausland’s Brigade.

Carnifex Ferry Superintendent Sam Cowell calls this event “an incredible opportunity for individuals, families and youth to learn more about West Virginia’s history though living history presentations.”

The events start at 9:30 a.m. on May 23 with marching, firing and scrimmage drills. There will be camp life living history demonstrations throughout the day until 8:30 p.m.

On May 24, marching drills start at 9:30 a.m. and the disbandment ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.
