Smithers Public Hearing — The Smithers Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing and meeting on Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m. at Smithers City Hall. The public is invited to attend and submit comments on the comprehensive plan. A copy of the plan can currently be reviewed at Smithers City Hall, 518 Michigan Avenue, during normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). The draft of the plan can also be viewed online at https://tinyurl.com/SmithersCP. Members of the public can call city hall at 304-442-5282 if they are unable to view the plan at city hall. Written comments can be submitted ahead of the scheduled hearing to Smithers City Hall, 518 Michigan Avenue (PO Box 489), Smithers, WV 25186. The adoption process has steps that include public comment, the public hearing, planning council meeting, and presentation and vote by city council. The public review and comment period runs through Feb. 28. After the 6 p.m. public hearing on March 4, which will be followed by a planning commission meeting that night, approval of the Smithers comprehensive plan is on the agenda for the regular March city council meeting at 6 p.m. on March 14.
Gauley Bridge Planning Commission Public Hearing — The Town of Gauley Bridge’s planning commission will hold a public hearing and meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at town hall to address the town’s recently-drafted comprehensive plan. A copy of the comprehensive plan can be reviewed at Gauley Bridge Town Hall, 278 Railroad Street, during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Members of the public can call town hall if they are unable to review the plan there. Board of Education — The Fayette County Board of Education will meet as follows: special meeting (public hearing proposed school calendar 2019-20) — Tuesday, Feb. 26, 8:30 a.m., BOE office; and regular meeting — Tuesday, Feb. 26, 9 a.m., BOE office.
Fayette County Commission — The Fayette County Commission has released its schedule of meetings for 2019. All meetings are held at 9 a.m. in the county commission room in the Fayette County Courthouse, Fayetteville. The commission will meet as the Board of Equalization and Review on Feb. 22 for those wishing to question their property’s assessed value. Commissioners will hold budget meetings on March 1, March 8, March 15, March 22 and March 29. The commission will meet to lay the levy on April 16. Other meetings scheduled are: April 5, April 26, May 10, May 24, June 7, June 21, July 12, July 26, Aug. 9, Aug. 23, Sept. 11, Sept. 27, Oct. 11, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, Nov. 22, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20.
KFPSD — The regular board meeting of the Kanawha Falls Public Service District is the second Thursday of each month at 4 p.m. at the office in Gauley Bridge. The public is invited to attend.
Gauley Bridge — The Gauley Bridge Town Council meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. Council meets on the second Tuesday at Town Hall and on the fourth Tuesday at the Community Center (old GBHS). Harm Reduction & Recovery Program — The Fayette County Health Department hosts a harm reduction and recovery program every Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at 202 Church Street, Fayetteville. Food Pantry — The North Fayette Food Pantry is operating a food pantry on the third Wednesday of each month for two hours, from 10 a.m. to noon, providing free USDA commodities to those who qualify, located at 5407 Midland Trail, Falls View, in accordance with federal and USDA policy. Song Writers Festival — There will be a song writers festival Feb. 22-23 at the Historic Fayette Theater in Fayetteville. The event will celebrate the release of Andrew Adkins’ album, “Who I Am,” and will feature a number of performances by songwriters from West Virginia and around the region, including Allan Dale Sizemore, Clinton Collins, Mark Spanger featuring Abe Partridge (Friday) and Ron Sowell, John Lilly, Tony Harrah and feating Andrew Adkins with Johnny Staats, Bud Carroll, Ammed Soloman, Annie Neeley and Clint Lewis. Cost is $20 each night or $35 for both nights. All proceeds will go to support the Coda Mountain Academy. Revival — Kimberly Church of God will host revival services through Sunday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. each evening. Dana Jones will bring the message on Wednesday, followed by Pastor Jeff Floyd on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, there will be a gospel sing featuring River’s Edge and Evangelist John Wishon will preach at Sunday morning and evening services. Rise Up Youth Rally — Grace Baptist Church in Fayetteville will host a Rise Up Youth Rally Friday, March 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. for those in grades 5 through 12. All area youth groups are invited to join in for a fun night of singing, dramas, and the preaching of the word of God. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Scott Pauley. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
