The Fraternal Order of Eagles Montgomery Aerie #1040 held its annual community children’s Christmas party on Sunday, Dec. 15 at Valley PreK-8. The party has been an Eagles’ annual Christmas event serving the community for over 50 years,

Children from the community attended the party with their parents and/or family members. Upon arrival, each child received a ticket, pink for a girl or blue for a boy, for a chance to win a bicycle.

While waiting to see Santa, everyone enjoyed pizza and juice. Candy canes were presented to children seeing Santa.

After visiting with Santa, everyone was invited into the gymnasium to be seated in the bleachers. Wrapped gifts were piled high on tables opposite the bleachers. There were six age/gender groups (babies through 12 years of age) designated. Each group was called separately to receive a present from an attending Eagle member. In addition to presents, each of 212 children received a fruit/snack bag prepared by the fraternal order.

At the conclusion of the present distribution, ticket numbers were pulled to determine winners of the bicycles. Twelve lucky girls and 12 lucky boys went home with bicycles.

As many fruit/snack bags were left over, the fraternal order donated 71 bags to Montgomery Elderly Care for the residents and staff.

Bicycle winners were as follows:

Girls — Lacey Guess of Belle, Leeana Chapman of Montgomery, Destiny Ramsey of Montgomery, Christina Wright of Powellton, Regan Fragale of East Bank, Pearl Erley of Kimberly, Kaydence Adkins of London, Madisan Belcher of Gauley Bridge, Narvana Lovejoy of Powellton, Alyssa Goodrich of Boone, Sophia Paavilainen of Charlton Heights and Zaylin Messer of Cedar Grove; and

The Eagles would like to thank Fayette County Schools and Principal Lee Loy for the use of the facility for the event. Appreciation is also extended to Walmart; to Gino’s Pizza for preparation of the pizza; to Kroger of Kanawha City; to Santa (Brandon Moschino); and to those individuals who were most generous with donations of additional bicycles, presents, monetary donations, and/or who helped out in various ways to make this annual event very successful.
