Helen Dean

Helen Dean, age 95, of Montgomery, died May 27, 2019.

She was born July 9, 1923 in Lookout, the daughter of the late Hobart and Maude Rader Hypes. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt Dean, and her sister, Ruth Carson.

Surviving: son, Richard Dean of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren, Sara Parker and husband Tommy of Belton, Texas and William Dean and wife Dr. Michelle Hudson of Chicago; and great-grandchildren, Makyla, Maddison and Miles.

A graveside service was held May 31 at Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.

Mary Jane (Perdue) Doss

On May 24, 2019, at CAMC Memorial Hospital, while surrounded by her family, Mary Jane (Perdue) Doss of Holly Grove, departed this world to a better place.

She was born on July 6, 1934 in Logan, daughter of the late Edgar and Bertha Elizabeth (Edison) Perdue.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Edgar and Bertha Elizabeth Perdue; husband, Robert Doss; brother, Harry Perdue; son, Phillip Greggory Doss; and daughter, Diana Kay (Doss) Pratt. 

Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Treasa-Sue Green (Ray); sons, Robert Doss Jr. (Mary Ellen), James (Jimmy) Doss and Roger Doss (Roxanne), all of Holly Grove; son-in-law, Joseph Pratt of Gallagher; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nila Perdue of Mentor, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mary Jane was a graduate of Kingston High School where she was chosen to be Ms. Kingston. She loved to cook, and draw, and had a loving personality.

She was a homemaker but worked several years for numerous families providing in-home private care.

She was beautiful inside and out and loved by all that knew her. 

A private graveside service was held May 30.

Ruth Diane Durham

Ruth Diane Durham, 71, of Montgomery, passed away on May 30, 2019.

She was born in Montgomery on Aug. 8, 1947, daughter of the late Charles and Bessie Lavender Barnhart.

She was retired from Bank One in Charleston.

She is survived by her daughters, Jenni Harris (Chris) of South Charleston and Sarah Beavers (Andrew) of Charleston; sisters, Naomi Jean Redlich (John) of Hampstead, North Carolina and Ruby Tufts of Wilmington, North Carolina; brothers, Jack Barnhart (Connie) of Beckley and Carl Barnhart (Patty) of Charleston; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life took place June 3 at O’Dell Funeral Home, Montgomery.
