The 19th annual Take a Kid Fishing Day, sponsored by the Paint Creek Watershed Association, will be held Saturday, May 18 at the Ash Branch Handicap Accessible Fishing Pier on Paint Creek (exist 74 off the Turnpike). Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. There will be a fish pond for the kids and all bait is free. There will be free food and drinks, sno-cones, cotton candy and nachos, as well as face painting, balloon twisting, games, fingerprinting by the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department and more. Every child will receive a free fishing pole. Information also will be provided by the West Virginia Division of Forestry, West Virginia State Fire Marshal, Division of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Protection, West Virginia American Water and the National Coal Heritage Association. The Pinch Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand and there will be a variety of raffles, including a gun raffle by Ducks Unlimited. Volunteers are needed to help out with the day’s events.
