A Fayette County woman was jailed earlier this week on child abuse allegations.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley, the detective bureau of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department received an intake complaint of a potential child abuse situation that had occurred in the Cannelton area. After interviews with two alleged juvenile victims in the case were conducted at the Just for Kids center, Fridley said there are indications that child abuse/neglect occurred.
The mother of the two children, Erlinda Joy Proctor of Cannelton, allegedly exposed the children to frequent use of methamphetamine and other drugs, verbal abuse and physical abuse. The complaint also alleges that Proctor failed to ensure the children were taking necessary medication, and she exposed them to other issues associated with drug abuse.
Proctor was arrested on two felony counts of child abuse creating risk of serious injury. She was unable to post the $50,012 bond set by the Fayette County Magistrate's Office and was remanded to Southern Regional Jail.
