A traffic stop for an equipment violation turned into drug charges for a Fayette County man Tuesday night, according to a press release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeremy Louis Bufford, 34, of Smithers, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. The driver of the vehicle, Alicia Conliffe, was cited for no insurance and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Fayette Sheriff’s Cpl. S.R. Morris initiated the stop of a vehicle on U.S. 60 in the Smithers area just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, the release stated.
Conliffe admitted to possessing a small quantity of marijuana when Morris advised her that he was going to conduct a K-9 search of the vehicle.
Before initiating the K-9 search, Morris asked Bufford to step out of the vehicle. Upon noticing this individual attempting to conceal something in his shoe, Morris searched the passenger and found a baggie containing approximately 55 30mg oxycodone pills hidden inside his shoe, the release said.
According to the release, a further search resulted in the recovery of more than $1,500 in cash from Bufford’s pocket.
