Fayette County Schools have changed the last day of school to Friday, May 10.

The Fayette County Board of Education has designated May 13 to May 17 as “Staff Development Training” for all professional and service personnel. Officials said the training will assist in preparation for opening the county’s newest schools in the fall.

The designated new last day of school will apply to all Fayette County Schools, with the exception of Collins Middle School, officials reported. Due to construction schedules, the removal of the modular units and distribution of utilities, the last day for Collins Middle School will be Friday, May 3.

“Fayette County is in the process of completing a major reorganization of the county school system,” Superintendent Terry George stated in a press release. “There are many tasks that must be completed prior to opening the schools for students in August. We are asking the parents, students and communities to exercise patience and understanding as we attempt to complete the process.

“We wanted to provide as much advance notice to parents as possible to arrange child care for the summer break.”

If parents have questions regarding the process or the release schedule, they are urged to call the Fayette County Central Office at 304-574-1176.
