Residents along U.S. Route 60 through Fayette County gathered along the highway on Thursday to recognize the riders taking part in the annual Run for the Wall.

The cross-country motorcycle ride from California to Washington, D.C. follows three dedicated routes for the 10-day journey: The Central, the Midway and the Southern routes. The Central Route is the one which runs through West Virginia.

The ride, which drew tens of thousands of bikers, ended at the Lincoln Memorial before the bikers walked on to the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

It has been announced that the 2019 Run for the Wall will be the final such event, but President Trump tweeted on Sunday “The Great Patriots of Rolling Thunder WILL be coming back to Washington, D.C. next year, & hopefully for many years to come…”

According to a number of published reports, Nancy Regg, spokesperson for Rolling Thunder, said in spite of the president’s concern and his statement, the group has no plans to return to Washington next year, but instead will focus on several regional events to honor Prisoners of War and those killed in action in the nation’s wars.
