West Virginia University’s Board of Governors, meeting by conference call Thursday, unanimously approved the WVU Institute of Technology’s final progress report to the Legislative Oversight Commission on Education Accountability.
The update was submitted to LOCEA Friday, completing a series of reports that began in 2006 to comply with provisions of a state code to integrate Tech’s institutional functions with those on the main campus in Morgantown and strengthen relationships between the two universities.
Except for integrating library services such as sharing electronic journals and other resources, all functions are fully or near fully integrated, officials say, including dining services, financial aid, legal affairs, human resources, physical plant, social justice, information technology and others.
Campus Provost Scott Hurst said Tech is now focused on the future, operating on a more cost-effective foundation and led by a progressive leadership team.
“This report illustrates the progress we’ve made toward integrating the 15 targeted institutional functions, and as a result, becoming a more integral part of the WVU family,” Hurst said following the meeting.
“Ten of these functions are virtually complete and we are continuing to develop and discuss the integration of the remaining areas. I am pleased to report that throughout this process we have significantly strengthened our relationships within administrative groups and assessment units."
He added, “We are now focused on a strategic plan for the future.”
