SMITHERS – A holiday market with works offered by local vendors will be open to the public at Valley PK-8 in the former Valley High School building at #1 Greyhound Lane in Smithers on Sunday, Nov. 28 from 1 to 6 p.m.

The Smithers Mega Christmas Market reports it’s nearing dozens of vendors signed up already. Other vendors are invited to visit or call Smithers City Hall at 304-442-5282 to register to participate. Registration proceeds will go to the food pantry for needy students at the PK-8 school, according to event organizers.

Free parking and free admission will lead attendees into holiday gift and décor sales such as unique coal designs, driftwood, mosaics, paintings, handmade jewelry, reclaimed wood signs, candles, wreaths and ornaments.

Vendors will also offer jewelry including some handmade, fashion accessories, and clothing including T-shirts. Scents, soaps, lotions, kitchen tools, artificial flowers, stick-on nail polish, and a treat called a “cocoa bomb” round out some of the other items for sale.

Though canceled last year due to pandemic concerns, the normally annual event returns this year at the same location, old Valley High, says event sponsor and organizer Beth Fish of Fish Insurance Group. She says the school offers space for social distancing, and wearing masks is encouraged for everyone. The market is presented in cooperation with the City of Smithers.
