The application for Cultivate WV mini-grant applications went live recently, and a WV Community Development Hub representative urges those interested in applying to not tarry.
The deadline for all applications is Sunday, Feb. 28, according to Amanda Workman-Scott, director of community engagement for the WV Community Development Hub.
In the Upper Kanawha Valley area, grant money will be awarded later this year for a variety of projects. Cultivate WV, a statewide program, will provide $40,000 in funds which can be utilized by community members of the UKV Strategic Initiatives Council (a combination of leadership from Montgomery and Smithers). Mini-grants are slated to be released in maximum increments of $2,000.
The application form is available at https://form.jotform.com/210217722398051.
On the heels of several organizing workshops over recent months, Hub coaches have recently begun hosting weekly virtual office hours for people who want to talk about their project idea or have questions about their mini-grant application. Individuals who are unsure about facets of their planned project, including its scope, budget or other areas, are urged to reach out to the coaches for support.
Workman-Scott offers two suggestions to potential applicants. "Ask for help if you need it," she said. "If you are sitting at home and are thinking I have this idea but I don't know if it will be eligible or I don't have the team to help me with the project, call one of us and we will talk it through." And, just as importantly, "Don't wait until the last minute to complete your application."
Hub representatives suggest that those applying use a word document first to have the application on file if it is needed later. "You can then copy and paste your information in the online application when you are ready to submit," Workman-Scott said.
Those who submit an application will receive a confirmation email from Workman-Scott within two days of submission. If they don't receive confirmation, they are asked to contact her directly.
