MONTGOMERY — The GRID at BridgeValley Community & Technical College has a number of activities planned throughout December, and they’re open to anyone in the community.
This weekend, representatives of the Appalachian Beekeeping Collective will provide a free introduction to the world of beekeeping to anyone interested in exploring the field. The session is set for Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
Also on Saturday, a sewing class will be taught by Patricia Mason from 12 to 4 p.m. Those who attend will create a comfortable and unique wrap-around apron which has no straps. Cost of the class is $30 and all materials will be included.
On Saturday, Dec. 8, a beading class and a painting class are scheduled.
Participants in the beading class taught by Machele Kindle will create a Spiral Beaded Bracelet in just three hours, from 1 to 4 p.m. The finished twisted bead rope effect is breathtaking. Cost of the course is $35 and all supplies will be included.
Bernice Deakins, artist-in-residence at The GRID, will teach a painting class on shadows and highlights from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Dec. 8. Learn to paint a beautiful snow scene with water mixable oils on Masonite panels with a minimal palette. All materials are included in the $30 class fee.
Also, The Shops at The GRID will be open on the first four Saturdays of the month. Each Saturday will feature between 6 to 10 artists and artisans providing a variety of items for sale, including photography, pottery, jewelry, weaving, wood crafts, painting, hand-sewn items and more.
