The DuPont Middle School Panthers are off to a 5-0 start in the 2021 softball season.
On Thursday, April 22, the Panthers easily handled Horace Mann, 17-1, in four innings.
Ryley Joe Chapman was 3-for-4 with a home run, two triples and six RBIs to lead the DuPont attack.
Also for DuPont, Riley Smith was 3-for-4 with a homer, a triple and four RBIs, Madison Young launched two homers and drove in four runs in two at-bats, and Kensie Pittman was 3-for-3 and drove in a run.
Lexi Osborne earned the pitching win, striking out three and yielding three hits.
Earlier, DuPont blanked Sissonville, 11-0, on April 20.
Chapman fanned eight and scattered three hits in hurling the five-inning shutout.
At the plate, Chapman was 3-for-4 with a two-bagger, Pittman was 2-for-2 and knocked in a pair of runs, Lydia Ellis produced a double and two RBIs, and Smith, Young and Lydia Davis had one RBI apiece.
On April 19, Young belted three hits, including a home run and a double, and had six RBIs in three plate appearances to power DuPont past John Adams, 12-1. Chapman had two doubles and drove in a run, Ellis was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Smith stroked a triple, Davis smacked a double, and Jamie Ray drove in a run.
Chapman gained the pitching win, fanning three while yielding three hits and one earned run.
DuPont registered earlier wins over Andrew Jackson (13-1) and Charleston Catholic (13-5).
The Panthers were set to play South Charleston at Little Creek Park on Thursday, April 29. A game with East Bank is planned for May 3 at 5 p.m.
