It’s been a good year for local stock car racer Jeff Arthur, a Falls View native.

Arthur’s team recently made its NASCAR debut in the Stockner Excavation 150 at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va. They secured a 14th-place finish.

“It was definitely a much more intense style of event and was well worth it,” Arthur says.

The team plans to run there regularly in 2006 in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Racing Series.

Competing at Ona Speedway this summer, Arthur’s team secured second overall in the points race, with a shot at nailing down the championship in the final race of the season recently.

The team landed some sponsorship this season, including a co-sponsorship deal with Motorola/West Virginia Wireless. WV Wireless is locally operated out of Charleston.

According to Arthur, Motorola has long-standing ties to racing and remains active on many levels, including sponsorship of the Andrettis in IRL racing.

“This deal was a key to making our season a success,” Arthur said.

The team also managed to secure local sponsorship from a Charleston tattoo artist. The website, www.NickQuinn.com, has also agreed to extend the contract through next season.
