After a scoreless first half, the North logged a touchdown and a two-point conversion early in the second half and made that stand up in an 8-6 victory over the South in the annual North-South All-Star Football Classic Saturday at South Charleston High School.

The game was sponsored by the West Virginia Schools Athletic Coaches Association and WCHS-TV/FOX-11.

“I’m extremely proud of them,” South head coach David Moneypenny told media members when discussing his team after the game. “We played hard on defense; we were on defense a lot, we better play hard on defense.”

“We had some local talent from my neck of the woods,” he added, “and they came out ... and proved they can play (against players from bigger classifications).

“A lot of heart, a lot of heart right there (motioning to his team’s huddle). Ain’t no question about that.”
